Publisher's Note
This enchanting tale, originally written more than 100 years ago by L. Frank Baum, marries all the magic and fantasy of The Wizard of Oz to the classic Christmas tale.

Nicholas is a mortal child found in the forest and raised by a band of woodland fairies and elves, where he learns to whittle small trinkets and toys from wood. As he grows older, he makes it his mission in life to make children happy by carving and delivering toys. Such traditions like hanging stockings on the chimney, Claus’s flying reindeer, and St. Nick’s immortality are explained through Baum’s colorful narrative thread.

Award winning painter Charles Santore, who has interpreted such classics as Peter Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, and The Wizard of Oz, beautifully re-imagines this Christmas fairytale, which is sure to become a Christmas classic on children’s bookshelves.

A human foundling child, adopted by a wood-nymph and raised by the creatures who inhabit a magical forest, grows up to be the immortal Santa Claus.

Found in the woods and raised by woodland fairies and elves, a young boy learns the art of whittling toys from wood, develops his own special magic and grows into a man with a selfless heart dedicated to spreading joy by delivering gifts to children around the world.

CHARLES SANTORE IS AN AWESOME ILLUSTRATOR

Created: 21/03/10
this is a must for any collection. charles santore's body of work is phenominal. i have been collecting children's books, strictly for the art, for years. there are some of the worlds most beautiful paintings, in children's books. charles santore's illustrations in this book will thrill and delight. it is not the basic or cliched claus story. this story was created by frank baum, whom wrote the wizard of oz. AK, the wise benevolent master woodsman, has a portrait painting in the book that is incredible and so beautiful. the fairies delight and are pretty to behold as santa starts out as a baby, in this tale. do not hesitate in buying this book, or any charles santore illustrated book. his snow white is awesome, the little mermaid is beyond compare. if you are intrested in classic stories that are not the disney version(nothing wrong with disney, just making a point)then charles santore's classics are a valuable choice. ENJOY!
