Publisher's Note

Linear algebra is relatively easy for students during the early stages of the course, when the material is presented in a familiar, concrete setting. But when abstract concepts are introduced, students often hit a brick wall. Instructors seem to agree that certain concepts (such as linear independence, spanning, subspace, vector space, and linear transformations), are not easily understood, and require time to assimilate. Since they are fundamental to the study of linear algebra, students' understanding of these concepts is vital to their mastery of the subject. Lay introduces these concepts early in a familiar, concrete Rn setting, develops them gradually, and returns to them again and again throughout the text so that when discussed in the abstract, these concepts are more accessible.

I cannot tell you about the book I ordered because it did not get here. However, I borrowed one from a friend of mine. The Linear Algebra book is a very good tool for the course I am taking. If you want to learn about mathematical matrices and how to solve them, than this book is a good choice.

needed it for school

I don't have much of an opinion on this book because I only needed it for school. I wouldn't read it during my leisure time because it is a textbook. I'm sure it's a pretty helpful book. My professor seems to like it a lot.

Used this product obviously for my linear algebra class. I pretty much sleep with this book because I get so much homework from it. What do I like about this book? Well, besides the boatloads of homework I get and the ample amount of free time I don't have, not much is liked. This book isn't the problem it's the prof, but the book is easy to follow, and the material isn't all that bad.
