Pre-dating the band's Columbia recordings is the country-punk track "Queen of the Rodeo," also found on the box set MUSIC BANK. This track is a notable inclusion, showing that Alice In Chains have a sense of humor behind the wall of musical gloom they've made for themselves.Best displayed on "Would?" and "Angry Chair," the tasteful, all-too-often overlooked drumming of Sean Kinney shines brightly here. The included version of "Love Hate Love" has a Doors-like intensity, with Layne Staley's vocal dynamics piloting the track like a vessel. LIVE is short on stage banter and thankfully long in unpolished, raw, powerful live recordings of these seminal Seattle hard rock masters.

There will never be another ALICE...

    Created: 05/04/09
Before the classic metal era was ushered out by the coming of Seattle's Nirvana and grunge, there was a band who kept one foot in the past and successfully bridged the gap between the two waves. That band was Alice in Chains.

Their musical sound was indeed harsh and raw and "grungy," but the melodic harmonizing between lead singer/writer Layne Staley and founder/lead guitarist/writer Jerry Cantrell was pure beauty. They took vocals to an entire new level. Add in incredible drumming by Sean Kinney and a fine bass played by Mike Inez, and you have a SUPERGROUP. Sharp, well-written lyrics over tight musicianship with an undeniably moving tone and mood.

Scorching versions of "Love, Hate, Love", "Rooster" and "Junkhead." All live, all perfect examples of how talented this band really was. Too bad Layne Staley had to die...

If you like hard rock with a hard edge and a eye on the darker side of life, you need look no further. Alice in Chains is rock group who can never be mimicked or repeated...

Live by Alice In Chains CD

    Created: 07/09/09
Hi, I really wanted an Alice in Chains CD and found this one was factory sealed which was great. It even described it as being a special CD. It was probably worth more in the packaging than ope, but I opened it. It plays great and the sound quality is fine for a live CD. You know what though? I had to order another one that was not live because it doesn't rock me like the basic recorded songs do. I like it and happy with the purchase but should have left it sealed. What can you say about Alice in Chains? I am a late bloomer for these guys and wish I had really took an interest in them when they were all there years ago. Rock on!

Must buy For the AIC fan

The varied material shows the transformation this band underwent. From Queen of the Rodeo to God Am, there were alot of miles and probably enough material to easily do a double disc set, that is why I rated it 4/5. Layne is a bit worn out in the 1996 material but I like all the songs on this set.
