For 1986's LIVE ALIVE, three albums into his career, Vaughan added pianist Reese Wynans to the Double Trouble duo of Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton, fleshing out an already-potent sound. Originals like "Change It" and "Say What" find Wynan's rollicking playing gilding Vaughan's unusually funky playing, while Wynans and Vaughan play off one another in percolating covers of material by Stevie Wonder ("Superstition") and Hank Ballard ("Look At Little Sister").As always, Vaughan pays tribute to his elders-Buddy Guy ("Mary Had A Little Lamb"), Howlin' Wolf ("I'm Leaving You [Commit A Crime]"), and Jimi Hendrix ("Voodoo Chile [Slight Return]"). Although this Hendrix version lags a bit, Vaughan's playing is exemplary on the shuffling "Cold Shot" and downright playful on "Love Struck Baby," where older brother Jimmie joins in the fun.

Editorial Reviews
3 Stars - Good - ...Stevie Ray had the muscle to tackle Hendrix without embarrassing results. Never compromising the blues, he just played them louder...

SRV lives on

Created: 20/12/08
Stevie has always been able to reach me when I've been way down at the bottom. This cd is just another example of that. With songs like "Mary had a Little Lamb" and " Little Sister", , how could you not feel better? I've listened to "Love Struck Baby" probably 100X and my hair still stands on end everytine I hear Stevie and keyboardist Reese Wynans jamming together. He may be gone, but Stevie's spirit lives on!

This is a definitive collection of live material

This CD shows the versatility of Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band in a way that only a live recording can. I am an avid fan of his music and have a number of his recording but this is the first live recording of his music I have purchased. If you like hard hitting blues guitar this is it. His recording of Voodoo Child is astounding!

One of the best Live Recordings ever

Created: 07/08/06
I love SRV and have all his CD's but this live performance was grand, especially I aint gone and give up on love. Overall this is like a live greatest hits up till 1985 kind of like Live at Mountreaux. But i would recomend this CD to anyone because of his great guitar sound and solo's, and the way he can sing the blues.

In the pantheon of guitar gods, SRV sits high

Stevie Ray Vaughan is undoubtably one of the most talented guitarist ever to walk the face of the earth. Even if you are not a fan of the blues, the way SRV's fingers move those six strings will make you a diehard fan. Since he is no longer among us, his live albums such as this is the next best thing.
