Album NotesFleetwood Mac: Peter Green (vocals, guitar); Jeremy Spencer (vocals, slide guitar, guitar); Danny Kirwan (vocals, guitar); John McVie (bass); Mick Fleetwood (drums).Additional personnel: Nick Pickett, Christine Perfect, Eddie Boyd.Recorded live between 1967 and 1971. Includes liner notes by Mick Fleetwood and Stephen Davis. Before they came to virtually define melodic Southern California rock in the late 1970s, Fleetwood Mac was a UK-based '60s blues-rock band, their style fueled by the electric American blues of Elmore James and Muddy Waters. Back then, the Mac's style was defined by the scorching guitar and impassioned vocals of Peter Green and the keening slide guitar of Jeremy Spencer. This three-CD set finds the band cutting loose on some of their favorite blues and early rock & roll songs, recorded live at the BBC studios between 1967 and 1971.
Editorial Reviews8 (out of 10) - ...at the peak of the Jeremy Spencer/Peter Green-led line-up, they were probably the crown of the British blues boom, arguably even better than Cream....there's still a grounding in Chicago blues styles and some almost ethereal guitar licks from Green...NME ...this two-CD collection of radio performances makes a convincing case for the Mac as...one of the greatest bands of all time, period. Between Green's breathtaking command of soul, Kirwan's way with an old-timey melody, and Spencer's apparent ability to imitate anyone...this was one versatile bunch...Musician (19960801)...the only real genius of the British blues movement, a man who could write, sing, and play the blues as if his life depended on it...Dirty Linen (19960601)...captures over two discs the full range of this astonishing quintet: letter-perfect Elmore James shuffles, heartfelt Buddy Holly Tributes and epic hard-rock originals....Green was the most melodic and understated of guitar heroes...Rolling Stone (19961226)eBay Product ID: EPID3380216
