Long Gone Baseball Movie w/ William Petersen

Created: 10/09/06
One of my all-time favorite sports movies. Only bad thing is, it's only available on VHS and is Out of Production.

It's about a Southern traveling minor league baseball team called the Stogies from the 50s era. The player/manager named Stud Cantrell was a washed-up guy with Major League talent that loved the ladies and always seemed to get himself into trouble. He puts together a rag-tag bunch of players on a minimum budget. They somehow end up getting to the championship. But... Stud has a tough decision to make because of a proposal from upper management... take the deal or lose his dream.

Has good humor with great competitive excitement.

Some of the actors include: William Peterson as Stud Cantrell, from the original CSI. Virgina Madsen as Dixie Lee Boxx, Dermot Mulroney as Jamie Don Weeks, Larry Riley as Joe Louis Brown, and Teller from Penn & Teller.

Anyone that loves baseball will love this movie.

One of my favorite movies !!!

Created: 07/07/08
I have been looking for this movie for 20 + years... I was told by several dealers that this movie was never released and no one could get it... I never
thought of looking on e-bay and then one day while I was looking around I looked up the title, and Voila!!! There it was... I was an above average baseball player that never really go a shot at playing in the minors or professional ball... So I can relate to a lot of this movie... Not to mention the superb acting by the stars in the movie... I am 57 years old and had several opportunities in tyhe last 3 - 4 years to pitch in several major minor league games mel ott - Roy Campanella and others and can still throw a great game... And I can still hit well !!! I don't know how many 57 year old guys can say that today !!! Well it's a super movie if your a baseball buff like I am !!!

Take me out to the ballgame

William Peterson in a comedy role, Teller actually speaks, and Virginia Madsen just as lovely as ever. I saw this years ago on HBO (several times of course) and remembered it as a precursor to Bull Durham with a little better plot. Since then I can't recall seeing Peterson in role as light as this one. I think that it should be included with 4 or 5 other films as a primer for the baseball season. Especially in those towns that have minor league franchises available. It might remind them just how hard the players work to get to the majors and that some of the most competitve games are there.

The baseball movie Long Gone.

Created: 21/06/08
Long Gone is one of the most underrated baseball movies in the past forty years and deserves its place among the better baseball movies. I consider it one of the best baseball movies that fans have never seen. Each time I introduce it to someone new, they become an instant fan. It seemed to get lost in the baseball movie mix with Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, and Major League all coming out in the late 1980's.
