Movie synopsis

Peter Jackson's epic trilogy is fully told here, with the theatrical versions of all three LORD OF THE RINGS films included. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING: With THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, director Peter Jackson has achieved a meticulous and captivating adaptation of the first book of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy trilogy. The setting is Middle-earth, a mythological land populated by elves, dwarves, humans, and the gentle, diminutive hobbits upon whom the story centers. One hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), unexpectedly comes into possession of an ancient magical ring so powerful it invariably corrupts anyone who wears it. In order to prevent the ring's erstwhile owner, the dark lord Sauron, from reclaiming the ring and taking over Middle-earth, a motley band of comrades set out to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom, where it was forged. Included in the group are Frodo and hobbits Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monoghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd); the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen); human warriors Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean); the dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies); the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom). Along the way, they wage battle with monsters, demons, and Sauron's evil minions, all brought to life by spectacular digital technology.LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS: Picking up where the first film left off, Peter Jackson's THE TWO TOWERS throws the remaining members of the Fellowship into the scattered chaos of Middle-earth, now fully under siege by the forces of Sauron. While Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) journey to the dreaded Mordor, Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) are held captive by orcs, and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) search for their abducted companions. Soon Frodo and Sam are joined by the sulking and duplicitous Gollum (portrayed by the voice and motion-captured acting of Andy Serkis), who becomes their guide through the barren lands leading to Mount Doom. Meanwhile Merry and Pippin encounter the looming Treebeard (voiced by Rhys-Davies) and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli find themselves in the land of Rohan, accompanied by an old friend. As the tale continues, each scenario becomes more perilous, and fierce battles erupt at both Isengard, home of the treacherous Saruman (Christopher Lee), and the massive Helm's Deep.LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING: THE RETURN OF THE KING, the third and final film in Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, finds Middle-earth on the cusp of great change. Weary hobbits Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) venture further into the dark realm of Mordor, guided by the increasingly desperate Gollum (Andy Serkis), the two-faced former owner of the Ring that Frodo must destroy in the fires of Mount Doom. Meanwhile Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) contend with the deranged ruler Denethor (John Noble) at the once-mighty city of Minas Tirith, as Merry (Dominic Monaghan) joins Éowyn (Miranda Otto) and the Riders of Rohan to hold back the forces of Sauron. Amidst the chaos, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) must rise to his destiny, aided by Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) in assembling allies for a massive battle that will decide the fate of Middle-earth.

Lord of the Rings: DVD Extended Edition Director's Cut

The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (2004, DVD),extended edition with some additional materials. As the DVD's have been released in various cuts, I first suggest you get this one, it is the best of the series. Obviously there were many directorial decisions made to 'boil down' the text for adaptation into a movie, so in addition to the DVD you should also own a text copy of the original novels. This allows you to see the tremendous number of difficulties that Peter Jackson had in adapting the Tolkien work into a film trilogy. Having said that, I must also say that Jackson's work is at the level of the very best. He wisely stayed in close touch with thousands of fans, and used them and their feedback to steer the production and editing of the theatrical(and subsequent) releases. Many director's would lack the wisdom to so effectively use this admiring fanbase (or, perhaps, lack the time and budgetary freedom to do so). Regardless, Jackson's adaptation of Tolkien's masterpiece is one of the crowning accomplishments of the cinematographic arts and sciences of the past century. There will be another Lord of the Rings brought to life in the next century, using tools and methods which are not yet known. It would seem about every twenty to thirty years we see another adaptation of some popular film or novel. However, given the film industry as it currently stands, with the distribution channels (and after-markets), this is absolutely one of the best of all DVD releases you could ever hope to own, and it will continue to hold its own well into the next century. Perhaps the holographic adaptation created in the year 2035 AD will sweep the Oscars, and maybe fully incorporate the entire text (will the audience sit still for 120 hours to see it?), but this is the absolutely benchmark adaptation that all followers will have to acknowledge.

I recieved my The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy(2004,DVD)
Which arrived with no problem. I went to play the movie and noticed that there
are scenes that are deleted and leave you guessing. one example is: What I remember is two hobits are fishing and the one hobit hooks a fish a pulls him
into the water a while he is under the water he looses his fish and looks down
and sees the ring and retrieves it and brings it to shore where the other hobit
comes over to see his friend. His friend shows him the ring and then they fight and golim strangles his friend.other parts missing are-bucklebury Ferry-then jumps to The prancing pony. and so on. I just thought I would let you know.

Classic movie

Created: 20/12/10
Lord Of The Rings trilogy redefined how movie producers and directors should make Fantasy movies (of the magical Dungeons & Dragons type of genre). Before, Lord Of The Rings, Fantasy movies were usually unimpressive, and under-budgeted. Peter Jackson changed all of that. Classic fantasy and action movie, thrill for the family. Fast pased action, visually stunning, lots of detail, well acted.

long, confusing, disappointing

Created: 01/06/10
First of all, I just finished reading the trilogy, and had heard the movies were great. That said, the make up and special effects were pretty good, (I especially liked Gollum), but the movies were a major disapointment. Even having just read the books, it was next to impossible to follow what was happening and why. I forced myself to watch the first 2, but only made it about 1/2 way thru The Return of the King, and stopped. Just too poorly done.
