The finale

The greatest trilogy in film history, presented in the most ambitious sets in DVD history, comes to a grand conclusion with the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Not only is the third and final installment of Peter Jackson's adaptation of the works of J.R.R. Tolkien the longest of the three, but a full 50 minutes of new material pushes the running time to a whopping 4 hours and 10 minutes. The new scenes are welcome, and the bonus features maintain the high bar set by the first two films.
Return of the King is the most dramatic film, tragic on almost a biblical level, and certainly the most satisfying. I can understand why Elijah Wood calls it "better than one and two combined". It centers on the hopeless mission to Mount Doom, which, as every fan knows, is the heart of the story. Around this we're bombarded by apocalyptic chaos and destruction on the Pelennor Fields, followed by Aragorn's hopeless march on the Black Gate. We finish at the Grey Havens, the best ending in literary and cinematic history, which encapsulates all of Tolkien's themes: courage, friendship, suffering, and passing on. It just doesn't get better than this.

I bought the dvd to complete an collection. Also, I'm a fan. This type of story has always been intriguing to me. The story was written by J.R.R Tolkien.
In the third and final chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic trilogy, Frodo is captured by Orcs, and the ring is within reach of the evil Sauron. But Gandalf continues the war against the wizard Saruman and the dark armies, while Aragorn's secret lineage may hold the key to the future. The themes of the story is Fantasy Lands, Heroic Mission, Curses and Spells, Race Against Time, Wizards and Magicians. The actors starring in this film are Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom. If you like Fantasy, then this story is for you.

A Masterpiece of film for a timeless classic!

The making of the epic Tolkien Trilogy was an undertaking that filmmakers dreamed of for decades. Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema did an impeccable job of staying true to Tolkien's vision. True fans of the trilogy are left finally satisfied with seeing the epic adventure come to a close on the screen.
The extended versions of the film offer fans a ringside seat to creating the blockbuster film and create the feeling of actually being a part of the creative process. The actors and filmmakers become like friends to the viewer and give a comprehensive look at the integral parts to making the trilogy come alive.
Elijah Wood and the cast of unforgettable talent bring to life the final tale with grace, guts and whimsy. The battle of Middle Earth comes to a crashing end that brings tears to eye of even the greenest of Tolkien fans.

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended
Created: 12/09/10
There is nothing to dislike about these movies. The story is perfection and Peter Jackson did an amazing job of capturing this perfection on film. The only thing that was unfortunate about these movies was that Tolkien wasn't alive to see his amazing story come to life on film. The Return of the King is probably my favorite movie in the trilogy only because it brings an end to a journey of great tragedy and passion. These movies have so many life lessons that can be applied to the hard times we are all facing each and every day. They make you see that even in the worst of times, there is always hope and I believe in times like these we could all use a sense of hope. The world is filled with all sorts of different types of people. Perhaps they aren't goblins or orcs, but these creatures represent the dark people of the world. The story was written during a time when there was question whether our world would cease to exist as we knew it. But good overcame the evil even though the odds were slim. Hatred will always exist in this world, but so will good, and its worth fighting for. That is why I love these movies so much, and there will never be a story ever written that could even begin to compare. And that incredible story has been brought to life.

Great Movie!!

This is the extended version. WOW, these three movies have been great! The first movie, Fellowship of the ring was great. The second movie, The two towers was also fantastic. This, the third movie, is something you gotta see (after seeing the first two movies). Just the special effects and the scenery would have been good enough to watch the movie. But you have great acting, an excellent story, and lots of action. I hope they do a "The Hobbit" movie someday. Buy the movies and set aside a long long time to watch them. P.S. The music score for all three movies is outstanding. I hope you have a good home theatre system to use!
