Movie synopsis

Picking up where the first film left off, Peter Jackson's THE TWO TOWERS throws the remaining members of the Fellowship into the scattered chaos of Middle-earth, now fully under siege by the forces of Sauron. While Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) journey to the dreaded Mordor, Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) are held captive by orcs, and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) search for their abducted companions. Soon Frodo and Sam are joined by the sulking and duplicitous Gollum (portrayed by the voice and motion-captured acting of Andy Serkis), who becomes their guide through the barren lands leading to Mount Doom. Meanwhile Merry and Pippin encounter the looming Treebeard (voiced by Rhys-Davies) and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli find themselves in the land of Rohan, accompanied by an old friend. As the tale continues, each scenario becomes more perilous, and fierce battles erupt at both Isengard, home of the treacherous Saruman (Christopher Lee), and the massive Helm's Deep. After masterfully setting up the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien in THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, Jackson continues the trilogy with the increasingly dark and battle-filled TWO TOWERS without skipping a beat. Although the director takes a few more liberties in adapting the second installment, he skillfully cuts from one scenario to the next, creating a tightly woven tapestry with the various storylines. Joining the impressive cast this time around are Miranda Otto as Éowyn; Bernard Hill as her father, King Théoden; Brad Dourif as the aptly named Grima Wormtongue; Karl Urban as Éomer; David Wenham as Faramir; and Serkis under the remarkable CGI facade of Gollum. An intense epic that features one jaw-dropping sequence after another, THE TWO TOWERS more than carries its weight as the crucial centerpiece of THE LORD OF THE RINGS.

The Two Towers is my personal favorite of the 3 LOTR movies. The extended edition extra scenes add so much to the film. The extended version of The Two Towers adds 43 minutes to the theatrical version's 179-minute running time, and there are valuable additions to the film.

The movie picks up where "Fellowship" left off: Merry and Pippin have been captured by Uruk-hai, and Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli are pursuing them. But they are sidetracked by an old friend: Gandalf, returned in a new form and with new powers, as Gandalf the White. He takes them to the kingdom of Rohan, whose king is bewitched by the evil Saruman. They barricade the people of Rohan in the fortress of Helm's Deep, for a final defiant stand against an army of Uruk-hai.

Sam and Frodo have left, to venture into Mordor alone so that Frodo can destroy the Ring in Mordor's Mount Doom. When the two hobbits become lost in Emyn Muil, Frodo realizes that someone is following them: Gollum, the tormented, twisted former owner of the Ring. They capture Gollum, who swears to serve "the master of the Precious." But even Gollum's shaky allegiance isn't enough for them to succeed, because the Ring has started to bend Frodo to its will.

This movie is much darker than the first and the third (almost like an Empire Strikes Back) and is the perfect preparation for The Return of the King.

2 Towers OUTSTANDING!!! especially - EXNTENDED version

For those who have not yet seen this movie, it is the 2nd of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and is OUTSTANDING!....After Froto and Sam separate from the rest of the group/fellowship, they continue on their journey where they meet-up with Smeagol, the mysterious and sneaky golom....The main group of Aragorn, the elf and the dwarf meet-up with an old dear friend who is a most welcome surprise. The COMBAT scenes are EXCELLENT and are longer and much more frequent than the 1st movie (Fellowship of the Ring) - Toward the end of the movie, the fighting at the Siege of Helm's Deep (fortress) is SUPERB and most intense....................I purchased the SPECIAL EXTENDED EDITION which is what I would STRONGLY recommend to those fans of this trilogy. If you have never seen this Extended Edition, I would strongly urge you to purchase this as there are a total of 15 new scenes and 19 extended scenes added to this version which significantly add on to the overall length of the movie and actually provides much more detailed information which makes the movie flow much smoother and makes things about the plot much more clearer and interesting as things come together better with these new and extended scenes. You won't be disappointed!

Riders of Rohan!

Created: 07/04/11
What is so brilliant about this film -- probably the one which benefits the most from the additional scenes -- is how the overall story of the War of the Ring gets swept into the background of what would otherwise be an excellent stand-alone historical drama.

Another high point for Peter Jackson's trilogy is the music. The theme from Rohan is dramatically different, and yet thematically in-line with the rest of the trilogy (particularly the Shire). If one hadn't taken the time to notice the music in the first film, it adds weight to an already rich and diverse soundtrack.

About the only theme I find quite as moving is the lighting of the Beacons of Amon-Din.

Again, awesome special features, a rich and rewarding experience and worth the wait if you are upgrading to Blu-Ray.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Created: 25/05/07
When this movie was first released, people tried to compare it to Harry Potter. The only thing similar between the two is that they are fantasy novels. Both are excellent films, but LOTR is much more mature and dark. Excellently acted, written and directed. Spectacular special effects and settings make this film believable. But don’t watch it unless you are ready to invest yourself, the story takes off quickly and similarity in names of people and places become easily confused. Well worth the time spent, and excellent book to film adaptation. The films couldn’t have been better.

The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers Extended Editiion

Created: 04/06/09
The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers was my favorite of the three movies. I had several people tell me that the exteneded edition had more in it that told what happened in certain parts that you wonder about ? Well what happened next after this? Your answers are provided in many cases. I am sure people have different questions and this extended edition fills in some of the holes. I loved the battle at Helm's Deep it was great. Number 3 Return of the King was the next favorite. Well worth seeing
