Album Notes
Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, guitar); Richie Sambora (guitar); David Bryan (keyboards); Tico Torres (drums).Additional personnel: Hugh McDonald (bass guitar).Although the initial reports that LOST HIGHWAY was to be Bon Jovi's "country album" turned out to be somewhat overstated, it does sit comfortably at the meeting ground between commercial rock and commercial country that Garth Brooks started exploring in the early 1990s, and that folks like Big and Rich or Toby Keith mine successfully today. In fact, Big and Rich continued their bid to appear on every album recorded in Nashville in 2007 by helping out on "We Got It Going On," while the ballad "Stranger" features guest vocals by Leann Rimes. Aside from those nods to the contemporary Nashville scene, and of course, the Hank Williams nod of the album title, LOST HIGHWAY is at heart an old-fashioned Bon Jovi album, based on their patented combo of Richie Sambora's hard-candy guitar riffs and Jon Bon Jovi's heartthrob looks and Everyman lyrical persona. Highlights include the teary lost-love ballad "Seat Next To You" and the powerful first single "You Want To Make A Memory."

Editorial Reviews
[T]he adult-contemporary horse they're riding does have its charm, like the fist-pumping chorus of the title track or the joyous slide of Richie Sambora's guitar on 'Whole Lot of Leavin' Goin' On.

loss of direction & impending disaster

As far industry standards go, this is an average cd by an above average band. As far as Bon Jovi goes, this is indeed a sub-par effort. Their skills have been muted on this disappointing outing.

Bon Jovi provides us with another slice of Americana (especially with I Love This Town and the title track), and as with older Mellancamp (the Pink Houses era), there are some vague spiritual notions but mostly the typical romantic inklings. This pop-country escapade eventually gets tiring after awhile.

The title track has already been made nauseous with radio overkill, unfortunately. Make a Memory, a sappy ballad is now making its annoying rounds as the second single. Even though it has some cool violin and piano, the bass-line makes it monotonous and boring (this would probably give Sambora time to change into another rattlesnake skin outfit and the drummer time to have a smoke). Got It Goin' On is supposed to be the rocker but it is campy and as stale as moldy cheese.

Although this cd is a bit disappointing, at least the band isn't embarrassing themselves like so many 80's classic rockers are doing nowadays. At least Jon is proving that he has matured a little and has learned a few things along the road, but the musical direction that has been taken here is still somewhat questionable. The band still knows how to rock and play to the crowd, but that is only apparent with past hits.

Incidentally, Christian rocker Russ Taff did the same thing about 10 years ago with mixed results. While his transition from Medals, which rocked, to The Way Home, which welded rock and country admirably as also attempted here, he then went totally country with Under Their Influence and his career never recovered. While Jon Bon Jovi isn't predestined for Gaither-ville just yet, it bears some concern as to whether continuing in this vein will be his demise, or if he'll recover his rockin' roots and resurrect his career.

This is pop, plan and simple. But, is it the fore-runner to further country endeavours in the future? Will Sambora ever cut-loose again? Lyrically, will Jon address his own political interests and mature beyond the encouragement of irresponsible relationships that is so prominent on the radio?

Stay tuned, I guess.

Bon Jovi Never seem to disappoint.

Been a fan for many, many years. My six year old even knows the lyrics to the majority of songs by this group.Have to admit, was alittle skeptical, when I first heard this was a Nashville-influenced album. But I stayed up til 12:30am anyway to go over to my local wal mart to buy it.I have to say,I'm ashamed to have had any doubts about this band.Bon Jovi never seem to disappoint. It's amazing, how a band that has changed their sound somewhat. Can still write songs that that always hit the right nerve. When your driving,"Lost Highway",or "We got it going on" fit well. When you want to look like a fool,or be old-fashioned for you wife or girlfriend. You can sing with Jon to "You want to make a memory" or "Seat next to you".All in all,you want be disappointed by this album. One of Bon Jovi's best albums.

The Jersey Boys do it again, a outstanding CD, must buy

This CD is a amazing CD. It shows that after 20 years Bon Jovi still has it. The quality is amazing. All I can say is get this CD, you will love it. Songs like Summertime and Lost Highway are perfect for listening in the car. Than there are songs like We got it going on that is perfect for listening before that big sporting event. There's also the slow songs(Memory, One Step Closer, Seat next to you). It's a mix of everything. It's perfect for any music lover

A pleasant Surprise

Created: 18/08/08
I am a huge Bon jovi fan, but when I heard that their new album was "country infleuenced", I admit I was sceptical. I bought the cd, and was quite honestly prepared to hate it. I was pleasantly surprised. The entire cd is excellent. It is a change for sure, but a change that they pulled off. The title track "Lost Highway" is really good, and the songs just keep getting better. The duet with Leanne Rymes is fantastic, and when they team up with "Big and Rich" it rocks the house. I give this album 5/5 and would suggest that you go out and buy it if you haven't already got it!

Bon Jovi Does it again Amazing set of songs

Created: 21/06/07
I recently bought this cd since i am avid bon jovi fan and it is excellent. I plan on buying 3 more copies for my family. I am going to see them live in late october and like how they sing on the records they are are amazing live. I really enjoyed the whole cd. My favorite songs were "we aren't strangers anymore" featuring lee ann rimes. And "We got it going on". I love every song and you can tell they always work hard on their records.

I highly recommend this cd, for true bon jovi fans target has 2 extra tracks only available at target(i work there) and walmart has a special bonus new dvd(new cd, but the cd doesnt have the bonus tracks from target). I myself bought both and it was well worth it!!!!!
