The Love Dare by Alex Kendrick and Stephen Kendrick (2008, Paperback)

I had never heard of this until I picked up the movie and decided to check on ebay to see if this truly was a book-was I surprised! I picked the movie up for my husband as he was working out of town and figured it would be a good one for him to watch as his cousin is a fire chief. He brought it home unopened and we watched it with our grandkids. They love it and have asked to watch it a couple times. I've watched the movie a couple times already as well and it is true that it's hard to do this. The first page starts with a warning, that the forty day journey needs serious consideration before embarking and to determine not to turn back no matter how difficult the journey. This warning ends with the authors daring you to take the journey. You can check out the book on Amazon it covers up to the first page of day to so you can get an idea of what the book is like. We're struggling in our marriage (2nd marriage for us both) and had originally picked it up for him but I'm reading it. It takes two of us to have gotten into this mess and it's going to take both of us to make it better. This book is definitely one to use over and over-just like in the movie when she asked what day he was on and he had continued on past the fortieth day. I like the format but may just use a notebook instead of writing in the book itself and see any new insights and changes as I keep using it. Some have said it is a simple format but it is a very challenging book. I've just started but this would be a SUPER wedding gift with the movie and two books. I can see areas that I need to improve (yeah, I'm trying to be honest) it's not easy and it would be easier to blame the other party. It's not an easy book if you're going to be honest with yourself but truly a necessary one to make life nicer all around and grow closer to one's spouse and G-d. Much of this is based on 1 Corinthians 13 so many of us have heard the verses at wedding services so it's familiar. I went ahead and skimmed through the book and am so glad that I purchased it and will pick up more of them for gifts. I highly recommend the book and movie. My hope is that you will choose the dare and the journey from one who has been divorced and has gone on to a second marriage and fall in love with your spouse all over again because it sure can be more difficult the second time around as there are more issues. May G-d's providence surround you and may he give you traveling mercies on your journey...

I watched the movie Fireproof before purchasing this book, to see what the "Love Dare" was all about. Watching that movie made me feel like I was watching my own life, and it really motivated me to try the Love Dare. This book is great for anyone - whether you have problems in your marriage or not. I'm on Day 16, although by now I could've been farther. I skipped some days in between dares since there are some times where it just doesn't work to do the dare or there is no time. But in the intro it says it doesn't matter, just keep going with the dares where you left off.

I find that when I am really frustrated with our marital problems or upset with my spouse, I will read the next day's dare before I go to bed and it is always a fitting message that applies to my situation. The best part about the book is that it is reminding me to pray for my spouse and myself and to remember that the Lord is there to help me. Even if you are not very religious, this book can help you to love unconditionally and show respect for your significant other.

Of all the marriage "self-help" books I have tried to read recently, this one makes the most sense. It focuses on changing how YOU love and how YOU act and how YOU pray, since you cannot change your spouse by nagging and complaining. This book has helped me become more self-aware of how I act toward my spouse, and more observant of his reactions to the things I do or say. It really is a challenge to do the dares sometimes when I am mad at my spouse, but that is why it is called a "dare". If nothing else, doing these dares is helping me learn more about myself and bringing me closer to God, although I do hope that my spouse is moved to show more love too by the time I get done with all the dares.

I purchased this book before i saw the movie after my neighbor was telling me about it. I cried through the entire moive it was so real life for couples. My husband and I have been married for 10 years and in the begginning years it can get rough like the story in this moive. Ecspessially if you do not have a christian foundation. Anyways the love dare is a wonderfully tool that will help you tape back into the heart of your spouse and make you fall over in love with them again. trust me! Only if you dare to do this 40 day DARE!

The Love Dare is the book that goes along with the movie Fireproof, that came out in theaters in Fall 2008. Movie has a Christian theme and is about marriage.

The book contains 40 days of Biblical topics and dares for each day. There is a topic, and a reading for each day which includes scripture, a dare, a place to check off when you complete the dare, and some questions about each dare.

An example--one day is about finding a marriage mentor. The questions for that dare are: who did you choose? why did you select this person? what do you hope to learn from them?

There are lines to write answers in the book. For a couple to do this, you probably each want to get your own book. If you are the only one in your marriage who would buy or do this, you can still do it and get a lot out of it.

The themes are about honor, respect, godliness, intimacy, forgiveness, encouragement, accountability, helping your spouse achieve their dreams, and more.

It takes work, but it is a book to help you get hope back in your marriage, even starting with just one person.

After watching the movie, FIRE PROOF, I knew I had to buy this book. It's an amazing 'Dare' to married couples for improving their marriage a hundred times over. I bought it for my fiance and I, and knew it would help our marriage start off on the right foot. This book has helped many couples before it was a blockbuster movie, and now will reach many more. I am so excited to start our new life with great intentions, good solid advice! 40 important aspects of marriage to focus on, from day-to-day aspects (great for busy people in todays society) to aspects to keep in mind longterm. This book is made to be a daily dare for 40 days, which I can easily see being repeated again and again as habit for over 40 years! Finaly a book couples can use to bring them closer and improve respect and communication in marriages without being a hassle. Encouraging and insightful, recommended for all couples of all ages no matter how long you've been together! Even good relationships can improve with the fun ideas in this simple book. A++
