Also available in a 3-pack with WILD-EYED DREAM and RVS III.Personnel: Ricky Van Shelton (vocals, guitar).Audio Mixer: Marshall Morgan.Photographer: Alan Messer.Unknown Contributor Roles: Dennis Burnside; Roy M. "Junior" Husky; John Wesley Ryles; Larry Byrom; Mark Casstevens; Mark O'Connor ; Paul Franklin ; Randy McCormick; Steve Buckingham; Eddie Bayers; Steve Gibson ; Farrell Morris; Tom Robb; Dennis Wilson .Country crooner Ricky Van Shelton hit it out of the park his first time at bat with his 1987 debut album, WILD-EYED DREAM, which became a number-one country album. The following year, like any heavy hitter worth his salt, he repeated that feat with the follow-up, LOVING PROOF. For the most part, Shelton plays to his strengths here; the album is a bit more ballad-heavy than its predecessor, giving him plenty of melodic meat to sink his teeth into, but LOVING PROOF isn't strictly sentimental city, either. Listening to Van Shelton tear into the Saturday-night revelry of the rockabilly rave-up "Hole in my Pocket," you'd think he'd spent his life belting out nothing but Carl Perkins tunes. And as with his first album, Van Shelton pays homage to the country classics, with faithful, top-drawer renditions of Ned Miller's "From a Jack to a King" and Hank Cochran's "He's Got You."

THE QUACKER THE DUCK THE SHEDDER THE TEARS...

    Created: 04/05/08
This album is a corny -- cornier -- corniest example of the 80's neo/trad/country trend, with its over-sentimental ballads & its unsofisticated kitchen (some prefer 'barroom') philosophy. For that reason, it could possibly be of interest & inspiration inside the realm of ageing cowboys & their true home-keeping wives only - if not for one single fact. Which is, it is planned, played & sung SO DAMN GOOD. Ricky wields his velvet voice just perferctly. The instrumental backing is intelligently concise - a tight fit without any unexpected slacks. The tracks themselves are really fine-crafted, and also they are positioned cleverly enough, with 2 rockabilly numbers each opening a (virtual) LP-side. - Finally, Steve Buckingham's production is downright immaculate yes it is!

-- Although I was always interested in all kinds o'music, this one was given to me (on a cassette & as a casual present) at the times when heavy metal was the *thing* that mostly made my day. So, the first time I played it was for a simple reason of respect for the man who handed it to me. The second time... just to know a little better & put it away for good. Next time.... -- oh yeah, finally it has got *fully* integrated into my life, and God only knows just how many times I repeated to myself these words, ever since:
"Things'll get rough, times'll get lean / But the only choise you got is to keep swimming upstream"....

So; for anyone who's got a coupla ears for music connected (one way or another) to his/her heart, this album is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

-- A neg. Strangely enough, the CD (at least, the one that I bought) has a 4-picture booklet (including the pic including in itself a nice pic of Ricky as a boy w/a guitar) - but it lacks the songwriting credits completely!! Luckily, I still keep that old original CBS cassette & it's all there!

This has a lot of the good old songs on it. I actually bought it because my daughter wanted a copy of one of the songs. I played it and enjoyed hearing all the old songs again. :^)
