    Album Notes
Personnel includes: Toni Price (vocals); Scrappy Jud Newcomb (acoustic, acoustic slide & gut string guitar); Casper Rawls (acoustic, electric & electric B Bender guitar); Champ Hood (acoustic & slide guitar, fiddle, background vocals); Steve Doerr (guitar, harmonica); Derek O'Brien (electric guitar); Jimmy Day (pedal steel guitar); Rich Brotherton (mandolin, background vocals); Johnny Gimble (fiddle); John Mills (flute, tenor & baritone saxophones); Gary Schlecta (trumpet); Jon Blondell (trombone); Ian MacLagen (piano, Wurlitzer piano); Dr. John, Riley Osbourne (piano); Chris Maresh (upright bass); Larry Fulcher, Speedy Sparks (bass); Barry "Frosty" Smith (drums, congas); Donald Lindley (drums, percussion).Recorded at Pedernales & Arlyn Studios in Austin, Texas.Austin blues diva Toni Price teamed up with guitarist/producer Derek O'Brien on this 1999 outing, bringing her formidable chops to bear on a delightful batch of tunes new and old. With brand-name players aboard like Johnny Gimble, Casper Rawls, and Champ Hood handling the majority of the guitar work and Ian McLagen and Dr. John making guest turns on keyboards, the band positively swings on every cut, no matter what the lineup yields. Price has the smoothest and laziest of deliveries, never resorting to phony rasping or high-pitched curlicues to put a song across, but always a little behind the beat and always firmly in the background. On this outing, she elegantly negotiates her way through jazz ("Come Love"), country ("Don't You Think I Feel It Too?"), New Orleans blues ("Remember Me"), and flat-out rock & roll ("Feel Like Cryin'"), sounding like she has all the time in the world on every track. An album that deserves a much wider hearing. ~ Cub Koda

Toni has a magnificent voice, and a unique laid back but involved style. She moves easily from country to blues to jazz and even a little rock on the same album - sometimes on the same song.If you're looking for someone who sticks to one genre, she'll disappoint. I bought this album because I heard "Loserville Blues" on WNCW (available on-line.)This is the fourth CD by her in my collection, and I will buy anything she releases. The songs on this one tend to be more low down in mood than up. For more stuff on the up side, I would recommend Midnight Pumpkin.
