Madagascar (DVD, 2005, Widescreen)

Movie synopsis

The friendship between a New York City lion and zebra is tested when fate brings them out to the unforgiving wilderness in this computer-animated DreamWorks feature. Chris Rock does the voice of Marty the Zebra, whose longing to explore beyond his cushy Central Park Zoo boundaries is the impetus that ultimately strands him and his pals on the shores of savage Madagascar. Marty loves the new, edible scenery, but his best friend Alex (voiced by Ben Stiller) the Lion begins to starve since his diet of thick steaks has been cut off, and the rump of his friend starts to look mighty tasty. Their other friends, a hypochondriac giraffe (David Schwimmer) and a sassy hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), try their best to think of a solution as the call of the wild slowly turns the starving Alex into Marty's worst nightmare. Meanwhile the hilariously self-aggrandizing King of the Ocelots (Sacha Cohen) has a plan to use Marty to repel their own carnivore problem. This kid-oriented comedy stays adult-friendly every step of the way thanks to a clever script that mixes New Yorker humor and even some existentialism in with the pratfalls and spit-takes. Jolts of comedic brilliance are supplied by some Arctic-bound escaped con penguins, and a couple of literary apes. It's not a musical, but classic songs from the likes of Louis Armstrong and Sammy Davis Jr. keep the montages flowing loose and sassy.

Most adults don't watch cartoons well heres one they need to see. From the Studio that brought you Shrek and Shark tale .
This is a fun movie for the hole family. The movie starts out with the Animals all living in the Central Park Zoo in New york and follows there journey to freedom. (Not all of them wanted to leave there Pampered home at the Zoo)
The Six of us all liked this movie very much. From 38 to 5 years old we all enjoyed it. Voices of David Schwimmer,Chris Rock,Ben Stiller and Jada Pinket Smith.
Watch out for the Lemur King (King Julien) he try's to steal the Show.
The kids will want to watch it over an over again!!!!
The DVD also comes with tons of bonus features and a new Penguins Christmas Caper Cartoon.

Enjoy!!!!

Great for adults and small children alike! Madagascar is one of the first DVD's in a long time that my two young girls ask for AGAIN and AGAIN.

The story centers around a group of New York City Zoo animals living a pampered life until Marty, a zebra- hits middle age and starts to wonder if maybe there isn't something more out there. Their adventures together-- along with some hilarious militant penguins, have both subtle adult humor and fun loving songs to keep the kiddos singing and watching.

There is a small amount of violence (aligator eating a duckie, etc.) but in such a way as to not be bloody.

The songs, and the fun charactiers have them singing "you've got to move it move it" in the car all the time. This is one I will most likely need a 2nd copy of-- I'm sure the first one will wear out!

BE SURE to check out the Extra short with this movie-- The Penguins in the Chritmas Caper!!! It is so adorable-- and you'll love it as much (if not more) than the movie itself. Go to the main menu, and it's on the lower right.

My girls give it three belly laughs and a great big hug. :) And my husband and I have been known to watch it again, even if they are asleep!

Grandson aged 2yrs. adores this movie and tired of renting.
It has all the elements of a solid Disney story: spunky music, quirky humor, and lots of fun excitement.
Story line follows 4 animal friends, a giraffe(who is a hypocondriac), a hippo(who is always happy), a lion (who loves the limelight of being a "star"), and a zebra (who is always dreaming). When the zebra "dreams" his way out of the city Zoo, nothing but trouble results when his devoted "friends" follow him......even into the "wild."

Sends a positive message of loyalty & friendship.

Ah, and then there was Madagascar. Just when you think everything that could be thought of was used up, WHAM! Another Classic is created.

There's really nothing you can say bad about this. As an adult if you critize the Characters not being good. Well, why on earth are you watching a childs movie and expecting awesome results. But thats just it, this movie is great. Great for children, teens, & Adults. Whats the worst that could happen? You get bit on the butt by a lion. You learn not to eat your friends, & instead eat some fish. Penguins dont really belong in Arctic? Who knew! (Just kidding- you'll see)

Anyway, This movie is right up there with Nemo & The Incredibles as a Family Movie. I think the voices/actors were perfect for the Characters. You get what your expecting when you buy the movie. No More, No Less. Its a keeper to my movie collection.
