easy to use; simple to understand
Created: 13/05/10
very simple to use. this model doesn't include a lot of bells & whistles...but that is not what i wanted. i wanted something easy to use, simple to understand and to just keep me from getting lost. this does the trick! in unfamiliar territory it keeps me on main roads. i am very satisfied with my purchase. i didn't find the written directions to be overly simple but the unit itself is in most instances self explanatory. this is my first purchase of a gps unit. for the price & quality i feel i made a good purchase. i am NOT very high tech savvy at all, and i found this simple to use right out of the box. my daughter lives in pittsburgh, pa; which in my opinion is one of the most difficult cities to maneuver. every street seems to go in circles. i find this unit keeps me going in the right direction. i also purchased the leather case made by megellan for this unit, it is a little pricey but well worth the money. it is very compact and fits into my purse with no problem. the case is very streamlined & fits the unit like a good leather glove. the case doesn't hold the power cord, i don't see the point in lugging around a power cord unless you are moving it from one vehicle to another. over all i am extremely happy with my purchase.

Magellan 1470 review
Created: 06/03/10
The Magellan RoadMate 1470 works well. Only one issue I have is in a number of instances I was in the intersections when it told me to "turn left or right here". It was late indicating the street. I used the Magellan 1470 on a trip to San Diego and it saved my %$& in San Diego even with the late turn direction a coulple of times. I have a Tom Tom and I like the size and features of the Magellan better. Over all good GPS.

Happy with GPS

I bought a Magellan RoadMate 1470 Car GPS Receiver and am very happy with it"s features and performance. One of the best features is that when you shut down your car, it shuts off automactically saving the battery power. The GPS I had previously did not have this feature. I had to change the mounting device, as it was difficult having a California legal location with the mounting provided.

Magellan Roadmate 1470 GPS (2010)
Created: 04/11/10
This is my first car gps unit, and I had my doubts about it. I mean, I've lived without one this long, why do I need it? Was I ever wrong! Now I don't see how I could ever have functioned without it! I bought it because we met a sportman in the field who said that all the US Forest Service roads were on the gps. Since we are hunters, this seemed like a good thing, rather than just relying on paper maps. This guy had a Magellan 1200 or something like that, so we checked Consumer Reports and they said that the 1470 was a good model. There are better available for more money, but this fit in my price range. It got us out of the forest when we were "lost" and our paper maps couldn't tell us where we were (how could we know which way to go if we didn't know where we were??). I turned on the gps and told it to "go to home", and it got us right back on the main road! Awesome. Today, I use it on urban roads, and my fear of driving in big cities has diminished. My gps knows the best way to get me there, and I just go where it tells me. I cannot vouch solely for Magellan. Perhaps Garmins and TomToms are equal or better. But for the money I spent, this has served my purpose well, and I'm pleased with my purchase. I have read some horror stories about Magellan's poor customer service, but I have called them numerous times for different reasons, and have found them to be courteous and knowledgeable.

Great GPS
Created: 29/03/10
After using the Hertz "Neverlost" Magellan that came in a rental I used in Florida I was sold on this unit. My current unit, a Garmin Nuvi 760, was never what I had hoped it would be. It was late on voice directives, inaccurate on turns and slow. From the first day I had it, the battery never charged. I used it strictly in car so that did not matter much early on. But on those occasions where I wanted to "carry" it, I was unable due to "low battery" status. When I contacted Garmin, my problem fell on deaf ears. After using the "Neverlost" system I contacted Magellan and was told that the Hertz GPS was a customized version of the Magellan 1420 & 1470. I bought the 1470. It is fast, easy to use, accurate. The one drawback is that Magellan does not manufacture a "beanbag" type dash mount that does not employ the standard "suction cup" arm. Like all others of this type, they never stay put. That aside, this is a tremndous buy for the money.
