Make a Quilt in a Day Log Cabin Pattern by Eleanor Burn
Created: 28/04/09
Eleanor Burns has made the Log Cabin Pattern very easy and simple to do, all with just basic strips of fabric sewn together then cut to size (how simple).
Eleanor Burns has added more color to this edition of the basic Log Cabin Pattern there are many design variations throughout the book which gives you many layout styles to choose from (such as Barn Raising, Furrows and a Beautiful Star layout). So, why not grab some fabric, cut to size your strips, sew them together, and cut them to size again. Using your book to follow the easy instructions can help you reach your goal of having a completed quilt. The book also includes instruction for two different methods for finishing your quilt top, there is the quick turn and tie method which can be great for some beginners to use and also the machine quilt and bind method to finish your quilt top. Before you know it, a beautiful quilt in your color choice will appear and be ready for any room.
The Log Cabin Pattern is simple enough for a Beginner Quilter and challenging enough for an Advanced Quilter, with the many color choices and layouts associated with this pattern. This can become a pattern you may find yourself turning to for quick gifts for friends and family members. You can make anything with this pattern from a quilt to home decor like a pillow.
I decided to purchase this book because I wanted to use the easy instructions Eleanor Burns is known to demonstrate and to see the many layouts I could choose from and make a simple and fairly quick quilt for my bed. I finished my quilt in approximately 3 days from start to finish, it was a Full Size Quilt.
I cut my fabric one day, I sewed my strips together one day and I choosed the simple quick turn method to finish my quilt.
I hope that I have inspired newbies and advanced quilters alike to gather their fabric and sewing supplies and sit at their machines to create a work of art, known as the Log Cabin Quilt. Enjoy!

Quilt in a Day Log Cabin Book by Eleanor Burns

For several years, I wanted to make a quilt but was intimidated by what appeared to be a very difficult pattern - the log cabin. I couldn't imagine cutting out and sewing all of those little rectangular pieces needed for the quilt. I imagined that it would take forever to complete the quilt.
A few years ago, I took a class at a local craft store, which utilized this book as part of the class. I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was to make this quilt; in fact, I finished my quilt top in one afternoon, and it was my very first quilt!
This book utilizes the strip cutting and piecing technique, which means you don't actually have to cut your fabric into itty bitty pieces. The book also is extremely well-illustrated and gives simple, page-by-page directions and photos of what each step in the process will look like.
This is definitely a great book for beginning and experienced quilters. I have made hundreds of quilts since my initial log cabin quilt, and can tell you that many of them have been in the log cabin design. They are fun, fulfilling and fast. You can finish your entire quilt in a weekend, and you get to see fast results from your efforts.
I totally recommend this book - it should be a standard on all quilters' bookshelves!

Log Cabin Pattern Book by Make a Quilt in a Day Series

The book is wonderful. It should be in every beginning quilters list of books to buy. It already is been used so much by a long arm quilter friend of mine over the years. That is why I bought this book so she could have a copy in case her very used book falls apart.
When I was a new quilter, this is the first book I work with to make a 45 X 60 crib size quilt. The directions, how to photos and the several helpful hints sprinkled through out the book are great. You can have log cabin fever, ask most any one who uses this book, it can be additive( In a good way) then you will mostly move on to other books in the Quilt In a Day series, but you will alway come back to the one you used first.
I highly recommend this book.

I bought this book because my friend showed me how to quilt using the book. It was so easy to understand. It gave me many examples so I could have my daughter-in-law select the pattern that she wanted me to use simply by looking at the examples in the book. I am thrilled that I bought this book, and I certainly plan to use more of Eleanor Burns's books. She knows what she is doing and explains so well what I need to know to complete wonderful quilts on the sewing machine.
