The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin (2005, Paperback)

Author: Jordan Rubin | Publisher: Siloam Pr | Language: English

Product description

Synopsis
Jordan Rubin suffered from Crohn's disease (an inflammatory bowel disease) that was so severe it nearly killed him. Desperate for a cure, he devised a diet based on biblical teachings. Stressing the importance of organically grown, unprocessed foods--processed foods, of course, were not available to Moses and Abraham--he also recommends avoiding shellfish and pork, and suggests an intensive 40-day change in diet that begins with severe cutbacks but allows, gradually, for the introduction of red meat, fats, and carbohydrates. In addition to diet, Rubin interprets biblical advice on other aspects of living, such as bathing practices and environmental concerns. And underlying all his advice is his religious faith, which permeates his program. Rubin is the founder of the Garden of Life line of vitamins and nutritional supplements, which he suggests may be helpful in following his diet plan.

Change you life for Optimum Health!

Created: 06/03/08
I have had a lifelong interest in diet and exercise and have read dozens off books on the subject over the years, but none have affected me like this one! Not just a diet book, The Makers Diet is about obtaining lifelong optimum health. No fads here, just fact. Do you want to live your best life and feel great along the way? If so this book will be of interest to you. It's not just about losing weight (although I lost 10 in 4 weeks, and that's a wonderful thing!!), but more importantly, about feeling fantastic. Even my mood has changed on this diet and I wake-up every morning with a whole new attitude and increased energy. So much of this book addresses what should be common sense but that's been lost in our modern era quest for convenience, fast and easy processed foods, and generally unhealthy environments we live iin. Not only does Jordan Rubin include his own amazing story of illness and recovery, he lays out a plan that will appeal to anyone interested in staying well and enjoying a healthly life. There are recipes, food plans, and shopping lists to get you started and really the only foods not allowed are things NO ONE should consider eating anyway. Sure, there are adjustments that will need to be made in the average diet, but once Jordan Rubin explains why they're taboo, you're likely to lose your taste for them anyway. Since reading my copy of this book I've bought several others for friends and relatives and will continue to do so. No baloney here, this is the real deal!

The best book on dieting you'll ever read!

Created: 18/08/10
I have bought three copies and will probably end up buying more. After reading numerous books on dieting, spending time at the gym, hitting my doctor up for diet pills...and none of these things helped me lose weight...I found a copy of "The Maker's Diet" in a box of books I bought in a lot on eBay. I wasn't going to read it, but something caught my eye while glancing at it and I decided to give it a try. It is all just plain, common sense!! Since I started eating according to the Bible, I have lost 7 pounds. I know that sounds like a rediculously low amount of weight loss when you constantly read about people losing 60 pounds and more, but I couldn't lose ANYTHING with all the other methods, and I was constantly inching up on the scale rather than down. I am not starving myself by a long shot, am enjoying trying new foods and watching the weight come off slowly. I've been eating according to the Bible for two months now and I'm convinced I will eat this way the rest of my life. Thanks to Jordan Rubin for writing this book!

Very Logical, Helpful and Eye-opening

Created: 07/08/06
I love this book because it addresses the major causes of chronic health problems as well as those of us that just feel "bleah" a lot of the time.

The changes made sense from what I seen as I scanned it and had really wanted to buy it for several months.

It does call for some radical changes in diet and health, but that shouldn't be any big surprise.

And its not a fad - its based on ancient, traditional dietary laws that make sense in today's world

True - it starts out as a primarily Low-Carb Diet - but you are only allowed to eat BENEFICIAL, low carb, WHOLE FOODS - Absolutely no sugar free, chemical-laden, soy processed drinks or bars. You can use small amounts of Honey as well as Stevia - because they are REAL, LIVE foods and not chemicals or poison.

You are to incorporate fruit ( no canned or sugar-drenched dried and ORGANIC if possible )gradually as well as Whole grains - and that means 100% whole grain food NOT made with sugars or corn syrup or anything you can't pronounce.

I was impressed with it and can't wait to start the 40 day make-over. I think its worth it for everyone to check this out. I especially liked the information on Skin care / Hygiene products - basically, if you wouldn't eat it, you should not put it on your Skin/Hair. Your skin absorbs what you put on it and if there are carcinogenic ingredients (and the FDA does NOT regulate what goes into cosmetics - cancer-causing and beneficial alike) then it goes right into your bloodstream - your stomach does not even have a chance to attack it with acid - which would happen if you ate the products.

Scary!!

Enjoy - hope this helps

Great Story! Great Book

Created: 02/09/06
This book was recommend by my sister. She said she had seen the author on TV and that this diet was good for arthritis suffers. I looked to see if I could find it on ebay and sure enough it was there and I got it for a great price.
The story about the author is amazing and I and my husband are starting the diet and looking forward to great results. I really like the fact that he lists the foods that are on the diet and the ones that are not. I also liked the fact that there are many recipes also included in the book. The diet should help much more than just arthritis. It is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone. It is worth the price just to read about Jordan Rubin and his amazing come back from certain death. This diet saved his life it has to be good for you and me too.

GOOD BOOK, JUST DON'T BUY ALL EXTRA STUFF

Created: 11/01/06
My husband and I find the book very informative and as a Christian couple we like the fact that it's based on Biblical references (though Mr. Rubin is a Messianic Jew).
HOWEVER we don't really agree with all the supplements he sells and the prices. PEOPLE WHO LIVED IN BIBILICAL TIMES ATE HEALTHY DIETS, AND MR. RUBIN AND HIS SUPPLEMENTS WERE NON EXISTANT THEN.
It might help to try a few of these supplements, whomever has the money and the time to do so, but it's NOT ESSENTIAL.
