Album NotesSpencer Dickinson: Jon Spencer , Luther & Cody Dickinson.A match made in heaven, THE MAN WHO LIVES FOR LOVE pairs punk-blues wailer Jon Spencer with brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson (of the North Mississippi All-Stars) for 19 tracks of some seriously gnarled musical gris-gris. Recorded at the Dickinsons' family farm, the album consists of twisted funk workouts, sparse freaky blues, and the kind of explosive rock-&-soul burners from which Spencer's earlier eponymous outfit got its name. The brothers' legendary father, James Luther Dickinson, was behind the boards for the affair, anchoring the trio to the barnyard floor and making sure the boys didn't burn the place to the ground.
Editorial Reviews4 stars out of 5 -- Here, Spencer returns to the loose, unpredictable but rippin' style of EXTRA WIDTH and ORANGE....[The songs] find him furiouser than he's been in years.Mojo [T]he Dickinsons distinguish themselves, dropping funky drummer beats here and dazzling guitar lead there, with some crazed-genius production touches by papa Jim.No Depression Spencer's deep-from-the-gut emoting and the Dickinson's heartfelt homage to their rural roots make these soulful barn recordings particularly viable.Magnet 4 stars out of 5 -- 'Flood' starts like country-blues before slipping into competitive screaming. Invigorating and intense.Uncut eBay Product ID: EPID54471783
