However, his debut, THE SLIM SHADY LP, contained clever rhymes and even the occasional innovation. His sophomore effort, THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP, proved that Eminem was no fluke, but instead a legitimate rap visionary. While his horror/shock rap can be unsettling, it's more often hilarious, as he and his Slim Shady character skewer anyone and everyone, notably the MTV-based world that surrounded him after the success of his first record. Few can come up with rhymes as consistently clever as this Motor City madman, and lines that will be repeated as long as this CD is spun. The most startling moment has to be "Stan," featuring haunting, ethereal guest vocals from Dido; an incongruously sublime track, it spins an O. Henry-meets-'60s teenage-death-song tale of obsessed fan worship gone terribly wrong.

Editorial Reviews
9 out of 10 - ...Real twisted...one long, disillusioned whine....[It] may be the white noise of America's Most Unwanted, but it also the product of a talent supremely Untouchable.

Ranked #7 in NME's Top 50 Albums Of The Year.

4 stars out of 5 - ...It has an answer to everything, filling every parking-spot in the towering multi-storey of ego with a triple-bluffmobile....No one else puts such a rocket under rap's self-consciousness or makes it so shocking...
Melody Maker (20000606)

4 mics out of 5 - ...You wanna peep [this LP], if not for the intense lyrics and witty punch lines, at least for the chance of witnessing one of the craziest MCs grow up right before ya ears.
The Source (20000801)

...Should forever erase the notion that [he] is the Elvis Presley of hardcore hip hop. If anything, he's rap's Eric Clapton: a white boy who can hang with the best black talent based on sheer skill - enhancing the art form instead of stealing from it.
Vibe (20000801)

...Musically, the album is a triumph....You can't deny [the lyrics'] searing honesty, and that's what makes [him] one of pop's compelling artists.

Eminem's Finest

Created: 08/04/06
Sometimes I don't know about Eminem. I just don't know.

Out of his first three albums, I consider this one the best. I haven't even bothered with ENCORE or CURTAIN CALL or whatever -- because I feel it won't get any better. While Em's lyrically ability still exhibits flashes of brightness, I think he's pretty much worn out his image.

THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP is more self-assured than SLIM. It relates its issues well, about the onset of fame and the responsibilities thereof, the power of misapprehened images, parts of it are fun, other parts are shockingly poignant. Forgive me, but I think "Stan" is Em's greatest song ever, even though it's not my favorite. 'MATHERS fixes a tight grip on what Em was about at that time, it delivers what was meant. It doesn't have any of the slight awkwardness of SLIM, and it doesn't flounder on its past laurels like SHOW.

One of the Greatest Eminem Albums

Created: 17/09/06
The Marshall Mathers LP is a great CD! Eminems lyrics are very violent and definetly not appropriate for young children. The album includes many hit singles. This cd is great to have even for a collection of Eminem cds. What I like about this cd is that every song tells a story. The Marshall Mathers LP and the Slim SHady Lp are the best eminem albums ever!

In my opinion, Eminem is brilliant, and Marshall Mathers LP is by far his best work!! When it came out I was too young to own the real CD, I had the edited version, the explicit content CD is Where its at!! The lyrics are so real. Great album and HIGHLY recommended!

Eminem is by far the greatest Rapper EVER!

Created: 03/06/06
Eminem is the greatest rapper ever. If you do not already have an Eminem CD this is the first you should get. Eminem puts all other rappers to shame. I hate it when people say Paul Wall gives Eminem a run for his money. Eminem would make Paul Wall limp away with his fake grill up his butt after a freestyle battle. Eminem is simply the best! Enough Said!

A Work Of Art...CLASSIC!

Created: 28/05/06
This is one of the best CD's ever released. It is not for the faint of heart. It's isn't for your little kid. But it is a passionate and well written CD. Right when you hear the intro you know it is going to be an out there experience and from then on you will be shocked, distured, but in awe of how well Eminem does his thing. I highly reccomend this CD to any hip-hop fan, it is a must have. Eminem's best CD no questions asked.
