Musical MG100hdfx From Marshall
Created: 06/11/10
What I like about the Mg100hdfx Marshall is that is is acurate in it's reproduction of the sound of your guitar. It has a clean channel that has just a slight hint of Marshall flavoring. All amps have a sound all of their own, Jim Marshall nailed the clean of his tube amps in this offering in solid state. I also like the gain that this amp has; in all of the settings I can find a usable overdriven sound in every genre that I attempt to play.
The only thing I don't like about this amp is the little cooling fan in the back gives a little trouble. I bought this one used and the fan started making noise the first week, but I have since found a new one on the net and have already installed it and the amp is dead quiet now!!! Yea!
I decided to buy it because I wanted the "Marshall sound" that I could not obtain thru pedals. I like the sound of the distortion, overdrive, sound of a Marshall amp, nothing else sounds the same. This sound is a tone in my head that I hear in music and you search untill you find the amp that delevers that tone with your guitar. I could not afford the true tube Marshall amp of my dreams so I searched untill I found this little amp that comes the closest to that "tone" in my head. The real bonus is that the clean channel of this amp has a flavor of tone that I've come to love as much as the clean " Fender" sound that I have played for years, so I'm sort of a convert if you will.
I have come to love this little amps tone so much I'm bidding on another one as we speak!{For a back up}.
This little amp gets a lot of bad press because it is a solid state and some of the tube snobs have bad mouthed it, Well my thinking is they haven't given it a chance, like all amps you have to take the time to tweak all of the settings untill you get "your" sound to come out of it. It has pleanty of punch [power] to drive two 4x12 cabs. I have two Marshall MG cabs that I have changed out the speakers with Celestion GT12-100 speakers and it sounds AMAZING! If you are on a budget like me this little amp is the best bang for the buck that gives that Marshall Crunch and major distortion when when called on to do so, just take the time to keep tweaking the controls till you get there. Thanks for letting me share my experience on this amp with you!

One Amazing Amplifier

I bought this item because I wanted to preserve my old tube amp, and all my research pointed to it after I got over modeling amplifiers - in a hurry. I have been playing for over 30 years, and always used tube amps. I have had many, and until I got a Classic 50, I never understood the Marshall Mystique.
I was a little skeptical - usually you cant control a solid state amp with just the volume knob on your guitar - but THIS amp just floored me from the moment I plugged it in, and I am considering buying another as a backup! I am running it through a Peavey 410e cabinet, and yeah, they say it should be matched to the 412 Marshall cab, but if you ilke the 410 sound ala Super Reverbs but with the EL tube vibe, you CANT play through a 412. It will rip your head off. The 410e is another rare gem, with its 400 watt handling capacity. Use both speaker jacks...
Really for me the only channel I use is OD2 - I can go from a sweet tone at 4 on my Strat to an insane growl (or not) at 10. The possibilities are infinite! Tone settings are full-range. The ONLY real control on this that is unequalled on anything else I have used is the Contour control - Dont bother with the newer MG series, people - THIS one has it. The new MGs are watered down. Right now you can get this head cheap, so do it before it catches on!! Every guitar I have plugged into this amp seems to have its sweet spot, and this amp finds it after a minimum of tweaking. Unbelievable! I wish i could lock each knob now that I have it set.
This amp is either loved, or much maligned - all I can say is its detractors have no idea what they are talking about. No other amp I have tried recently compares. Not one. I wish they still make this one.

Great Little Head-at Budget prices

For the money you can't beat these little heads--Being a JCM player, really wasn't expecting that much for a Marshall 100w head you can pick up for 150.00.But true to their name--Great Marshall tone and drive. If your looking for Quality and cheap-I highly suggest this for your first amp head or a back up.You will not be disappointed.Pair it with a Boss ME-50 and you have a Rock monster.

Marshall sound at an affordable price, new..... or used
Created: 11/04/09
Bought the half stack,(on e-bay!) Brand new this half stack cost less than a single Marshall 1960 CAB! It is great, yes it has the Marshall sound or tone,if you prefer, and the it's features all work well. the FX's are basiic but they do what they are intended to do,no more no less, they flavor the sound as intended. The single MG 412 cab sounds fine, but I would think both A and B cabs combined would be better for max volume settings,or the single cab could be mic'ed, and would recomnd the MG 412 speakers as they are designed to "match the head".You can plug in a set of headphones to practice at 3 am it still sounds like the 412 cab and you don't wake the house! Versatile,AMP Blues,Rock,Classic Rock,Metal or whatever it will deliver. Light enough to make moveing and setting up easy, if you play small gigs and are your own roadie. I wouldn't compare it to a higher end amp,or expect the raw power of any tube amp from it but dollar for dollar this thing is amazing! Well it is a Marshall, after all........

Very good for the price. Good low volume and high volume amp. I'm glad I bought this head. Very nice clean channel in addition to nice distortions and effects like delay. It was everything I wanted for my budget.
