Any question you have regarding machine applique will be answered in this book. Although there are many great books out there on this subject, Harriet's is the best hands down.
There are great color photos as well as illustrations showing how to cut and applique the fabric using the correct machine tension, fusbiles, etc. She goes over preparing the pattern for both blanket and satin stitching in depth.
There is also a detailed section that covers preparing the applique pieces and building your pattern both of which I found very helpful.

I have a couple books on this subject. I bought them so that I could learn how to do appliques. I've sewn for numerous years and some professionally, but did not want to figure this out on my own. This book explains everything and is organized very well. It talks about what kind of features your machine should have or purchasing one. It talks about different types of applique, materials needed such as stabilizers, explains needle choices in depth as well as fabric and thread. Detailed pictures help explain methods for the various shapes you may be applique-ing, stitch length and widths. It has valuable suggestions. Much better than other books I've read on the subject. I just wish that I had bought this one first-it would have saved me some money.
