Album Notes
Slipknot's debut may not be as accomplished as some of their later releases, but it's still a startling listen. The band's quirky take on metal, which includes elements of rap, death metal thrash, and progressive metal, not to mention Halloween masks, rose out of Iowa like a chilling nightmare, and manifested itself on the eight tracks of MATE KILL FEED REPEAT.Heavy riffs and unusual song structures dominate, amid rapping, singing, and growling. Already on their first album Slipknot establish their knack for engaging familiar metal elements while subverting them. The 20-minute-plus "Killers Are Quiet," for example, is one of the most experimental cuts on the disc, and also one of the standouts.

Mate Feed Kill Repeat

Very collectable rare debut album by slipknot(1000 copies released on cd and 1000 on lp of which there are 200 green, 200 black, 200 yellow, 200 orange, and 200 white) these were numbered with a sticker on the top right corner of front cover. The music is not as well structured or produced as their later albums( has some weird jazz parts that dont seem to fit and country music almost in bits and a raw unproduced sound) some of these original songs were re-written and appear on later albums. Beware of fakes there are numerous fake cds for sale the easiest way to identify these is only the originals have 2 rings around centre hole and disc is mint green copies have 1 ring and are either white or light green, these are still rare but worth no where near as much as an orignal so beware.

Slipknot - MFKR

Slipknot as you've never heard them before - and probably will never hear them ever again! All sorts of genres are mixed in this CD, but it doesn't sound wrong or forced in any way. It's cool to learn about the original Slipknot line-up and the music they made back then. Songs like "Slipknot" (which became "(sic)"), "Gently", "Only One", ... were re-written years later to be put on the self-titled debut and "Iowa", but the original versions do have something you can't quite put your finger on :) Anyway, this is a very cool CD and an awesome collector's item - get it if you can!

2 rings

Easy way to tell an original(only 1000 copies were made on cd) 'mate feed kill repeat' cd produced by the band in 1996 is, as far as i know only the originals have 2 rings in centre of the cd around the hole fakes have just 1 and are a different shade of green as far as i am aware it has NEVER been re-released. Most of the copies on ebay are 'illegally produced without copywrite' basically a burnt disc with printed cover to look like original. But to be honest these are the only copies available you will be lucky to find a genuine article on cd, where as records are a lot harder to reproduce and these are more than likely all original.

The real thing is RARE! Buy carefully!

I faced a dilemma. My Slipknot loving grandson desperately wanted the only Slipknot album you can't find in stores...the only album that was ONLY sold before Slipknot became a big deal in the rest of the world. Blessedly, I managed to find a real one (along with a number of phoney copies). These are real collector's items, and if you find one for less than $50, you'll be lucky. This album is the very first they made, and was self-produced. They had a limited amount to spend, and so they made a limited number.

These guys were not unique in making an album with their own money and selling them only in a localized area. When you start out in the business and times are lean, but you want to make a splash, you cut an album with a "vanity press" and you promote the heck out of it on the road. Once Slipknot caught on, and the rest of the world outside Iowa discovered them, these first albums became a much-sought-after (and very much pirated!) rarity, and as far as I know, there have been no authorized reprints of the original album since it was made in 1996. I might be wrong, but my grandson, the expert, assured me that I am not. It's an explosive album, with rare insights into the minds that created the music, and although it is not the kind of easy listening music you expect someone of my advanced age to appreciate, I enjoyed it along with my grandson when we played it. I liked this one more than their newer ones (which I have been forced to listen to for the past several months since my grandson "discovered" Slipknot! If you can find one, buy it!

For anyone who believes some of the review above, do not! The legit printed version of MFKR did in fact have two rings on top as well as green center ring on the bottom of the disc and the dis was mint green on top for the art work. The back booklet has no typos as the fake ones do. Also, slipknot never produce any vinyl's. Any MFKR vinyl on ebay or anywhere else is fake because the album only came out on compact disc to a limited number of 1000 copies.
