Perhaps not surprisingly, Aiken (with the help of uber-producer/record-company mogul Clive Davis), has crafted what sounds like the first-ever secular contemporary Christian album. With an utter lack of pretense and genuine feel-good vibe worthy of the best work of Newsong or Steven Curtis Chapman, MEASURE OF A MAN is a pristinely produced, relaxed-sounding showcase for Aiken's gorgeously clear and unaffected vocal style. On solid pop songs like "Shine" and the McCartney-esque "Perfect Day," the retiring Southern singer communicates his songs in a pure, direct fashion that, by virtue of its appealing simplicity, manages in short order to project more soul than a CD rack full of gut-busting Michael Bolton histrionics. A defining moment in the mainstream pop genre, MEASURE OF A MAN bridges the generation gap between teens and their parents with comforting consistency and a refreshing lack of flash.

Why did I buy this one? I had this one and lent it to my mom and so needed another one! Originally? Because Clay's someone all generations, both genders and pretty much any "type" of person can enjoy, believe it or not. Regardless of stupid 'net "chatter", I have yet to meet ANYone who has actually listened to this CD who has not liked it, and Clay. He has a beautiful voice, unually well-controlled vocal range, and this particular CD has a great song selection for him. The arrangements knocked me out - very professionally done. Even his new CD of love songs can't hold a candle to this, as it's more like nice covers whereas this one sounds more like breakthrough songs (even the hidden Solitaire). and, the new one's backup vocalists, added duet vocalist, and musical arrangements and also mixing are all inferior to Measure's. Clay is unusual, adept, smooth, and really loves what he does and does so well - and it's obvious on this CD. Don't listen to any nay-sayers - just give this one an honest spin, more than once if necessary - he's worth it. Listen carefully to the timing, the mixes, the background vocals, all of it. This is a job well done and somehow doesn't come off like just some marketing "perfection" or "creation" - he's the real deal.

Superb!

Clay Aiken's debut... I wasn't sure what to think, I tried to stay away from American Idol records but when I heard "Invisible" on the radio, my resolve melted and I purchased the cd... and I'm very glad I did :).

Clay has a beautiful/powerful voice... unlike some artists out there, he's truly talented. He puts his heart and soul into each and every song... There isn't one song on this that I hate.

Once he draws you in, you won't let go :).

No offense to Ruben fans, but I believe Clay should've won the contest.

I couldn't recommend this CD any higher, I believe Clay will be around for a long time to come :).

Clay Aiken's first CD is a joy to listen to. He will develop into quite the vocalist. An enjoyable and relaxing sound. Music that can touch your heart. I'm not a fan of American Idol, but this is an artist that will be around for a long time.

Great Way to Buy CD's!!!

I wanted the Clay Aiken CD but I didn't want to pay full price and I wasn't picky about buying a used one. The tape came perfect as advertised and I just love it. I am buying many CD's on ebay this way, now.
