Album Notes
Trapeze: Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass); Mel Galley (guitar, background vocals); Dave Holland (drums).Personnel: Mel Galley (vocals, guitar); Glenn Hughes (vocals, piano, bass guitar); Dave Holland (drums).Liner Note Authors: John Tracy; Simon Robinson; Bill Leslie.Unknown Contributor Roles: Dave Holland ; Glenn Hughes ; Mel Galley.Poised somewhere between post-hippie hard rock and prog, Trapeze was an early exponent of the heavy, blues-based sounds that would become de rigeur in early-to-mid-1970s rock. At the same time, the band had its artful side, with dynamics that paid attention to atmospheric development, and a melodic sensibility that was more Uriah Heep than Grand Funk Railroad. Their 1970 album MEDUSA finds the band (which was fronted by future Deep Purple bassman Glenn Hughes), being produced by the Moody Blues' John Lodge (the Moodies' own label initially released the album), and injecting a surprising amount of sensitivity into their hard-rock assault.

The number one under-appreciated rock albums of all time! This group consists of Dave Holland, Glenn Hughes, and Mel Galley. You may recognize these names in association with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iommi, etc. This heavy metal trio, is the first of it's kind, that I have found. It's hard to believe that this album came out in 1970, it could have just as well been released in 1980, and it would sound as fresh. The singles "Black Cloud" and "Your Love Is Alright" recieved plenty of airplay in Houston. If you can only add one CD to your Rock And Roll collection this year, make it this one!
Favorite tracks:
1. Black Cloud
3. Your Love Is Alright
4. Touch My Life
7. Medusa

history in the makeing

Created: 06/06/07
back in the sixties there was a band called the moody blues, who became so famous and succesful that thay started their own record company/studio. the concept was on the same level as the beatles/apple concept,to give bands with uniqe and/or original sounds a place to record and promote their music. trapeze was just such a band. this type of band would later be known as a power trio. later on this band would become deep purple whos style and sound started an whole new branch of rock-n-roll that some would call metal or heavy metal. and trapeze is where it all started. just the history of the band makes listening to this cd a must. but the music on this cd is worth listening to because its quite good. buy this cd and you will hear hints of music to come from such groups as deep purple, rainbow, white snake and others. this is worth a listen, you wont be dissapointed.

Great cd... I agree with the previous positive reviews of the music.
If you like this album, I'd suggest also getting You Are The Music, We're Just The Band. To my ears, YATMWJTB is even better than Medusa. Both are must-haves.

But if you're looking to replace your '94 cd with a newly remastered version, keep waiting. This is basically the same as the '94 cd release.

Total pleasure listening to the roots of hard rock. Nice raw rock n roll from the early 70's. A big influence on the music industry of the 70's and 80's. These guys had it right.
