Meet the Robinsons (DVD, 2007)

Stephen J. Anderson|Theatrical release: 2007 | Rating: G (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Based on William Joyce's beautifully illustrated children's book A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON, this lively computer-animated Disney film follows the adventures of Lewis (voiced by Jordan Fry and Daniel Hansen), a young orphaned inventor who is determined to find his birth mother by using a "memory scanner," a device of his own creation. When Lewis meets a boy from the year 2037 named Wilbur Robinson (Wesley Singerman), they begin a charmingly strange time-traveling journey that involves Wilbur's eccentric family, bowler hats bent on world domination, song-and-dance frogs, and a frustrated Tyrannosaurus Rex.Boasting the debut of cutting-edge 3D technology, MEET THE ROBINSONS is helmed by first-time feature-film director Stephen J. Anderson, who also voices numerous characters, including the mustachioed villain, Bowler Hat Guy. (Other notable vocal actors include Angela Bassett, Tom Selleck, Adam West, Harland Williams, and Laurie Metcalf.) ROBINSONS also marks Pixar head John Lasseter's first outing as an executive producer on a non-Pixar movie, resulting in a film that features some of that company's signature energy and wit, but stands on its own outside of that universe. While ROBINSONS' literally all-over-the-place plot can be a little difficult to follow at times, its stunning retro-futuristic visuals and amiably wacky characters easily keep viewers entertained.

This movie Keeps Moving Forward!

Created: 26/10/07
My wife and I saw this movie when it was out at theater this year and we moved it. So when it came out on DVD we purchased it!

If you have not seen the movie it is great - it is fast paced with very few if any slow parts. It will hold a kids attention 0 after all it held mine and I had ADHD!.

The story was a great story in itself with a good message.

The DVD came with great bonus features including deleted sciences with commentary from the director as to why the scenes were deleted.

The DVD also came with 2 full length music videos ("Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas and "Kids of the Future" by Jonas Brothers -it sounded like a remake of an 80's hit called something like "Kids of America") which were awesome to watch.

The only thing I was disappointed in this DVD was the games that came with it - or should I say game. I expected a better game from Disney than a click on this photo to help build the Robinson's family tree. I was expecting something with the flying cars, chasing the villain, etc.

Overall, it is worth the price to purchase the item and fun to watch. A great DVD to have on had this holiday season to keep the kids entertained!

Surprisingly Wonderful!!

Created: 27/11/07
Surprising? Yes! The Promos led us to believe this would be another action-packed animation film with lots of physical comedy for easy laughs and little intellectual content. We were very wrong, my husband and I had to sit again and watch after the kids went to bed. Action packed, lots of laughs - absolutely. But great story line, best I've watched in a while from a kids film. Our whole family loved this! Young to old! (I had to give a little sniffle at the end; sorry - I had to - it was just way too cute!) To quote my favorite line ever uttered by Larry the Cucumber, "I laughed, I cried, it moved me, Bob." This movie rated MUST OWN by the Millers. PS - watch AND LISTEN closely for Tom Selleck! :)

Great for both Adults and Children alike!

Created: 28/08/08
When I saw the previews for this movie I didn't want to even see it let alone buy it. I rented it from a $1 kiosk at my local supermarket, my 4yo son and I watched it twice in a 24 hour period before taking it back. Meet the Robinson's is great for both Children and Adults alike. Even children as young as my son got the humor and enjoyed this movie. I think it is definitely worth renting if not buying.

The story line is about a 12yo boy that is a wonderful inventor, that lives in an orphanage. He has had many adoption interviews but none adopt him. The day of the Science Fair a kid from the future goes to him and warns him about a guy trying to sabotage his invention. Of course he does not listen and the machine is sabotaged. Then the 2 boys go to the Future to show the orphan what is possible. Then they go back to the past to fix everything.

I know it may not sound overly appealing, which is why I strayed away from it, but there is much more to it and lots of humor for children of all ages. I was cracking up. No bad language and nothing I would consider "Adult" humor or on the verge of racy or vulgar like a lot of theater movies are these days.

I am looking forward to getting this in the mail and watching it with or without my son. :) I hope this was helpful.

A True 'Little Wonder'

Created: 13/11/07
Yes, when I first saw the trailers, I thought, 'How dumb and bad that movie looks, how babyish' etc. I only went to see it because my sister took me and my other siblings. But, by the time the movie was over, I had lost my heart to this amazing movie. Meet the Robinsons is a wonderful movie for kids, teenagers(that's me!) and adults alike! Even my dad, who usually dislikes Disney, really liked it. It's a wonderful story with twists, humor, fun, and an amazing message that changed my way of thinking entirely for the better. I saw it 7 times in theatres, and bought it the morning it came out(mentally kicking myself for getting to the store 20 minutes after it opened instead of exactly when it opened to buy it). Wonderful for children over 5 and for adults as old as 105! If you want to watch a 100% clean kid-friendly movie with an amazing message, Meet the Robinsons is for you, but be prepared to shed some tears! 10 stars out of 5. And Little Wonders, by Rob Thomas? I get teary-eyed just listening to it.
