If John's wife, Corey, became lead singer of Skillet, I'd think they'd sound much like Flyleaf here; got that kind of Evanescence vibe, which has to be said.

Album Notes
Personnel: Sameer Bhattacharya, Jared Hartmann (guitar); Howard Benson (keyboards, programming); James Culpepper (drums, timpani, wind chime).Audio Mixer: Chris Lord-Alge.Recording information: Bay 7 Studios, Valley Village, CA; Sparky Dark, Calabasas, CA.Illustrator: Pat Seals.Texas-based Christian rock/emo-metal quintet Flyleaf's sophomore release jettisons the raw, punk-infused angst of its platinum-selling debut, replacing it with a thick, punchy theatricality that is as progressive as it is radio-ready. Fueled by the electrifying voice of Lacey Mosley, who can build a city with a single soaring note and then tear it down with a lone caterwaul, Memento Mori (musically, at least) owes more to the tech-heavy, similarly faith-based King's X than it does the moody atmospherics of Evanescence, but there's enough angst and obsession here to draw fans of the latter. At 14 songs, most of which bust out the gate with guns blazing, it can be hard to differentiate, especially when the group sticks to the formula of heavy riff/verse/heavy riff/chorus, but between the moody single "Again" and the alternately laid-back and elegiac closer "Arise," the five members of Flyleaf have come awfully close to finding and defining their voice. ~ James Christopher Monger

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 -- MEMENTO MORI is a good album, with the awesome 'Set Apart This Dream' and 'Again' shining with their anthemic choruses and deft use of pop melody.

some moments, but not all memorable

Created: 13/12/10
If John's wife, Corey, became lead singer of Skillet, I'd think they'd sound much like Flyleaf here; got that kind of Evanescence vibe, which has to be said.

I don't think this cd is as good as their first. It is less memorable, less catchy hooks. This one has a fair bit more mellow stuff also.

However, Lacey's vocals are stellar here, perhaps even better than their first cd. The approach taken in production here certainly showcases her haunting lead vocals.

But, to make this an even better outing, the moody gothic side of the band could have been pushed a bit more. This is what makes them unique. I would have liked this cd to have been a bit noisier, perhaps the band should have been pushed more than the lead vox.

What also makes this cd unique is the artwork. The liner has an unusual story instead of lyrics and the graphics are dazzling.

I absolutely love this cd! I listen to it like three times a day. The songs are even better on this cd than on the last one. They are written better and Lacy's vocal are amazing and so angelic. I think that anyone who likes rock, hard rock, or christian music should have this cd.

Flyleaf Momento Mori cd

Flyleaf is one of my favorite band's, and this is only there second album, Flyleaf fan's have been patiently waiting for new music from them for almost five years, and I think they made another excellent album there will definitely be song's to your liking and some song's maybe not to your liking, but all in all many new Flyleaf's song's and Lacey's voice will be stuck in your head, they have such a unique sound, and not to many girls can rock the way Lacey does and her words are powerful, this is a must album to buy and own.

Good sounding band

I like the repeat of the christian message in a rock style of sound. I would have not known that they were christian band initially. I heard the first album and liked the style and tone of the second one better.
