Publisher's Note
In Anne Rice's extraordinary novel, the Vampire Lestat--outsides, canny monster, hero-wanderer--is at last offered the chance to be redeemed.

He is brought into direct confrontation with both God and the Devil, and into the land of Death.

We are in New York.  The city is blanketed in snow.  Through the whiteness Lestat is searching for Dora, the beautiful and charismatic daughter of a drug lord, the woman who arouses Lestat's tenderness as no mortal ever has.

While torn between his vampire passions and his overwhelming love for Dora, Lestat is  confronted by the most dangerous of adversaries he has yet known.

He is snatched from the world itself by the mysterious Memnoch, who claims to be the Devil. He is invited to be a witness at the Creation.  He is taken like the ancient prophets into the heavenly realm and is ushered into Purgatory.

He must decide if he can believe in the Devil or in God.  And finally, he must decide which, if either, he will serve.

In the first four Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice summoned up for us worlds that are fantastic and distant, making them as resonant, real, and immediate as our own.  In this, her most daring and darkest novel, she takes us, with Lestat, into the mythical world that is most important to us--into the realms of our own theology.

In Anne Rice's new novel, the Vampire Lestat - outsider, canny monster, hero-wanderer - is at last offered the chance to be redeemed.
He is brought into direct confrontation with both God and the Devil, and into the land of Death.

Industry Reviews
"[MEMNOCH] is one of Rice's most intriguing and sympathetic characters to date. . . . Rice ups the ante, taking Lestat where few writers have ventured: into heaven and hell itself. She carries it off in top form."
Seattle Times

"Like Interview with the Vampire, Memnoch has a half-maddened, fever-pitch intensity. . . . Narrated by Rice's most cherished character, the vampire Lestat, Memnoch tells a tale as old as Scripture's legends and as modern as today's religious strife."
Rolling Stone

Slow reading

Created: 08/04/09
This book had it's good and bad points. I found it a slow-read, and my least favorite of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles. It follows Lestat (a main character in the first five of the chronicle books) as he goes with Memnoch on a journey through the beginnings of the world as God made it, the evolution of animals and humans, and the development of the soul. Lestat travels with Memnoch to Heaven, Earth and Hell. He witnesses the procession as Jesus is headed toward his death, and he sees how souls are made to forgive the sins of their lives in Hell. It offered a new perspective on religion, one that some may find hard to swallow. Anne Rice has said this is her favorite of the vampire chronicle books, but I have to disagree this time. I read this book just to move on the the next in the series. If you aren't dead-set on reading the whole series, this one could be the one to skip.

I love all of Anne Rice's books and this was no exception. Readers are taken on a spiritual journey with The Vampire Lestat through heaven and hell.

The book is wonderful. The only thing is it doesn't follow the Bible all the way through, so brace yourself before you read.

The Religious Exploration of a Vampire

Created: 17/05/06
This book continues the story of LeStat. This is a look at LeStat's struggle with the good and evil of the nature of what he is. It is a wonderful expansion to who he is. It adds so much depth to his character. Even if you have never read any of the other Vampire books by Anne Rice, this book will intrigue you nonetheless. It is very well written and the new characters that are introduced are compelling. The "familiar faces," so to speak, continue to grow. It is an excellent addition to The Vampire Chronicles.

Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice

I have enjoyed Anne Rice's novels about vampires and witches, I have not found any other author that can write novels about vampires and witches as well as she does. The descriptions and phrases that she uses makes me feel like I am in the story with the characters. I enjoy reading her material.

Memnoch the devil...not as desirable,

Created: 11/03/07
I bought it to add to my Anne Rice book collection. Also because I hadn't read it yet. It was a bit slow and like most of the vampire chronicles repetetive. Even though being reminded of things past is good, it went way past. If you have read all the prior books then you're familiar with Lestat's journey. Ofcourse I love it because it's Anne Rice and her writing is superb. But the story lacked something, and I'm still not quite sure what that is.
