Merlin (DVD, 2004, Special Edition)

For a made-for-TV Hallmark TV special, Merlin doesn't act like it's supposed to. A large big-name cast incuding Sam Neill, Helena Bodham Carter, Martin Short and James Earl Jones. Special effects that don't belong in a decade old production. A interesting and involving story that mixes the best of medieval times and fantasy magic. Merlin has all of these and while three hours is along run time, never once does there seem to be unnecessary or boring scenes. Definately pick this one up, especially if you missed it the first time.

This was a made-for-TV movie aired on NBC in the late 90s. And for TV, a large budget with great actors, an excellent script and beautiful filming on location around the UK and Ireland. "Merlin" gives a different perspective of the Arthurian tales, that of a disinterested wizard who just wants to be human and live a normal life. Of course that can't happen. Sam Neal gives a believable turn as the famous Merlin but it is Martin Short's role as the gnome Frik that you will remember. I have used this 3-hour video in my 8th grade English class, breaking it into 4 parts. Students usually rate this as one of the best lessons of the year. And having seen it more than 50 times in 13 years, it still holds my attention.

Merlin is an intelligent treatment of Arthurian legend. Successful blending of action, adventure, drama and humour. Imaginative use of computer generated effects without being heavy handed. This ensemble cast of seasoned actors portray their characters well and draw you into the story. A few brief, frightening images but woven deftly into the context of the story.

This is a very good movie and the effects are just great. Any kid would love to see this movie also....It's Funny, it's cute and interesting to watch. I am an adult and I enjoy watching this as these kinds of stories fascinate me. Of course the battle between good and evil amoung wizards and witches has to come to an end and you can guess who wins of course. Good clean movie and a good bit of funny parts too. Knights of the round table and all that good stuff. Good movie

there was nothing to dislike about this movie at all. i liked everything about merlin special editioned dvd. it was a great story taking out from the pages of englands history. i recommands you check it out for your self.i think you will enjoy this movie alot.
