Merlin's Apprentice (DVD, 2006, Full Frame)

The sequel to the 3 hour TV special Merlin, starring such renowned actors as Sam Neill, Miranda Richardson, Helena Bonham Carter, and Martin Short, Merlin's Apprentice takes us on an entirely new adventure.

A young orphan boy who can use magic uses his powers for all the wrong reasons, mainly stealing food and other such things. This boy eventually grows up to become a master thief, but the great wizard Merlin is not fooled by meaningless tricks, and instead of punishing the boy, decides to take him under his wing and train him further in the arts of magic.

While I'll always prefer the first film, for a die hard fan of Merlin legendarium, this film is another great one to add to the collection.

Overall a good movie... But don't think of it as a sequel. It's too far removed from the original and fans will likely buy a lot of them (as I did) because the first one was great. Most of the characters are new and seem unrelated and the plot is too differently flavored: it seems more of an action move, but less character driven. But on the brighter side that may be good~ it's not just a rehash. Neill and Richardson are back... always good. So I would recommend it to fans of the first if only because it can be found way cheap on-line! Overall a good try. Thumbs-sideways. If you haven't seen the first one, buy that one instead...

This movie goes back to the old country of Camelot, King Arthur and Merlin the magician. Merlin is very tired after performing magic for King Arthur in a large battle. Merlin decides to take a nap. When he wakes up, it is fifty years later and most of his friends have died. Now he must conprehend the time in which is at present. Excellent movie and I recommend it to anyone.

The 1st Merlin film was great, and I expected this to be as good, but, it definitly was not. It was not as engrossing as a story line as the original.

I decided to buy it because I love the television program Merlin and the story of Merlin, King Arthur and Camelot.
