Of course, Michael Jackson's tragic passing created considerable demand for those final rehearsals, so they were packaged as the This is It film, released almost five months after his death, with a soundtrack as an accompaniment. Since there were no real live recordings made, at least not any to fill a big-budget blockbuster like this, the soundtrack consists of almost nothing but the hits repackaged one more time, with the title track -- an '80s leftover, co-written by Paul Anka and released under the name "I Never Heard" by Safire -- added as an enticement in two separate versions, the second being orchestral with an opening straight out of Sgt. Pepper's. The song does feel like a demo, right down to how it fades out mid-chorus, but there's no denying the thrill of hearing an unheard vocal track of Michael at his prime. There's a second disc containing demos of "She's Out of My Life" (just Michael and an acoustic, quite nice) "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'"(full demo, with identical rhythm and guitar lines, close to the final but lacking its horns), and "Beat It" (a true writers sketch, all vocals and harmonies, no lyrics or instruments, kind of awesome), plus a "poem" of "Planet Earth." All these bonus tracks are a greater enticement to purchase than anything on the album proper. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Wonderful collection...Get the 2 disc version for sure!

This 2 disc set features some of Michael's best work including such smash hits as "Smooth Criminal," "Thriller," "Beat It," "Black or White" & "Billie Jean". The bonus disc is a real treat features 3 demos and MJ reading the poem "Planet Earth". Sends chills up my spine when I hear him talk during the demos and when reciting the poem, gives a little insight into the man that was Michael Jackson. Overall, this collection is a real thrill and I give it 5 out of 5 stars. If you are a true Jacko fan, this collection is certainly a must have addition to your MJ library. Thank you Michael for the music and the memories. I was lucky enough to see him live at Wembley Stadium, London, England back in 1992, with Sheryl Crow as a backup singer then, and it was one of the best concerts I ever went to. Really miss him. Rest in Peace Michael.
Cheers, Saintly-Sinner

This soundtrack is Definitely a hit!

Created: 17/11/09
"This Is It" is another greatest-hits compilation from one of the worlds greatest artist. It’s a hit parade, from “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” through “Man in the Mirror.” Arranged in the same order as heard in the new "This Is It" concert film, and presumably as they would have been played in the live gigs that Jackson had planned to put on in London. After listening to the soundtrack, I can earnestly proclaim those concerts in London would have been something spectacular to witness, that’s for sure.

As a true Jackson fan, I found "This Is It’s" second disc to be of greater interest; Jackson’s own rough demos of three key hits are performed plus an unexpected casually spoken poem. I particularly enjoyed hearing the King of Pop work out the vocal harmonies for “Beat It”, on the soundtrack. There was no way I was going to miss out on the enjoyment of listening to these rare glimpses into Jackson’s creative process.

Very nice Michael Jackson collector item!

Created: 01/02/10
I am a big Michael Jackson fan and collector of his items. The Michael Jackson "This Is It" CD is a great collector item and a must have for all his fans! Great to listen to as well; it contains some of his most popular songs along with a new one called This Is It. This CD is titled after his proposed comeback tour to be held in London's O2 Arena. The cover for this CD is a "hard-cover" book that contains lots of very nice high-gloss photos or pictures inside. These pictures or photos are of Michael in his last days of rehersal for his proposed tour in London. Unfortunately, he didn't get to do the concert tour due to his unexpected and untimely death. R.I.P. Michael, you were the best!!

I like the way the entire CD layout was done, I LOVE everything about it!! Michael Jackson was the greatest artist and musical genius that has ever lived and his music as well as his legacy will live on forever as long as we all remember him and carry on with the messages he's left us, he's left us the tools and the inspiration on how to be as well as become great humanitarians in our own right! Michael Jackson will forever and always be the "King Of Pop" and will live on in my heart forever!! RIP Michael, we the fans love and dearly miss you!!

This is It

Amazing work by the genius that we lost too soon. I can't remember loving Michael this much, but the movie and now this set has made me remember all the great times I've had surrounded by Michael's music. It hurts my heart to hear these songs and to watch the movie. I wish his life hadn't taken the tragic turn it did in his last several years. I wish we hadn't abandoned him as a human being or an artist. I hope he has found peace and I am grateful we have recordings of his remarkable gift.
