Microsoft Lifecam VX-7000 Web Cam

I had to upgrade cameras when I loaded Windows 7 on my PC. This camera does work with Windows 7 64 bit though it took two tries to get the correct driver from the Microsoft Web Site -- and that was allowing MS to 'allegedly' select the correct version, so don't give up if it doesn't work the first time. So far the image quality in video mode is only fair, grainer than I like, but it could be a lighting or setting issue that I have yet to resolve. The camera does the job, but is not impressive.

The Windows 7 install was easy, and the camera's menu is simple and intuitive. However, after upgrading from the VX3000, I expected a better picture quality than 800 x 600. I mean it is ok but kinda grainy and the colors seem off a bit. I also own a VX6000 and the picture quality vs the VX7000 is about the same. For the cost of this web cam you can purchase a Logitech Pro 9000 and get much better results. That's exactly what I plan to do.

For a small webcam, this is loaded with features that you will actually use. I am running Vista 64 bit, and ny old webcam wouldn't work with that operating system. I was glad somebody had a new one for sale on EBAY. I use this to talk to my grandchildren that live 800 miles away. I can't wait to try it out with them My old one didn't even have auto focus. There are better and more expensive webcams out there, but I don't know why anyone would need more features than this one has.

Video and pictures are of good quality, did not like the way it hangs/sits on a monitor. Could be more secure. Seems to bleed color from horizontal objects in low light, but doesn't if there are no horizontal objects, strange. Good quality for the price. Microphone picks up sound clearly with good quality.

This is my second webcam. I bought an off brand one from an online retailer, and it was very difficult to set up, and the mic never worked. This time I bought a better cam and am not disappointed. Great deal on ebay and the camera works perfect. Very easy to set up on my vista machine. I was skypeing in 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend the VX7000.
