Movie synopsis

Prolific director Michael Winterbottom (24-HOUR PARTY PEOPLE) takes an unusual turn by helming A MIGHTY HEART--a studio picture starring none other than Angelina Jolie. Jolie stars as Mariane Pearl, the widow of WALL STREET JOURNAL reporter Daniel Pearl. Daniel was kidnapped and executed in Pakistan in 2002, and Winterbottom's film centers on the frantic activities leading up to his death. Fellow journalist Mariane revs into action as soon as the disappearance of her husband is announced, calling on the FBI and experts in terrorism to help in the desperate search. With the media circling around the story like hawks, Mariane endures a very public display of grief, and her plight is perfectly captured by the unlikely alliance of Winterbottom and Jolie. The film was shot mostly in Karachi and uses locations that Daniel was known to have visited, adding a heady dose of authenticity to the proceedings. Winterbottom uses shaky, hand-held cameras, which add to the feeling of chaos as multiple organizations descend on Pakistan in the quest to find Daniel; fortunately the director uses some much-needed on-screen captions to make sure viewers are up to speed on who everyone is. A MIGHTY HEART is tough, emotional viewing that will be challenging (yet rewarding) for many audiences, even those who are already familiar with this heartbreaking story.

AN EYE OPENER MOVIE / TRUE STORY

Created: 08/10/08
This is a heart renching story, that is based on a true story.
Angelina Jolie is nothing less than amazingly brillant chartacter in this movie. This movie takes place in Karachi, Pakistan.Daniel (Dan Futterman)and Mariane (Angelina Jolie) Pearl are staying at a Indian friend's house Asra Nomani in Karachi to do investigative journalism on the recent terrorist attacks from 9/11, and the US attack on them.In this country Daniel was told as long as he meets in a public place with anyone he meets with he will be safe. The was a meeting set up to meet Sheikh Gilani who is a religious leader, at the Village resturant in Karachi.Everything goes terribly wrong when he gets a phone call while waiting at the resturant and decides to meet at another place. All along the metting was a setup to kidnap Daniel, for no other reason than him just being an American. A 5 month pregnant Mariane is desperate to reach her husband, and makes several attempts to reach him on his cell, but it doesn't go through.Mariane goes on to call the US consulate to tell them of her missing husband. After days of not hearing a word about his dissapearance terrorists give demand to the US of a jet plane, & demand to have the prisoners at Guantamano be treated humanely and they will do the same for Mr.Pearl.When the US finally replies to the terrorist and deny their requests won't be met or negotiated, the terrorist set a 24 hour deadline for the life of Daniel.Karachi Poilice, CID Cheif Javed Habid go into a frantic search of the town to try to locate & rescue Daniel. The police & CID Chief try to locate the suspects in the dissapearance by the emails that were sent to Daniel for the meeting by the server who sent the emails. The whole meeting was a setup and was planned for weeks. When one suspect leads to another through cell phone records they are running out of time to interrogate suspects involved. After days of no contact from the terrorists a video tape is delivered to them giving them confirmation about Daniel Pearl. In this movie Mariane says if she can get through this she can do anything! An emotional story when all you have left is hope.
Many of the terrorists in this movie believe that "their aim is to purify Islamic through violence." Not only are the Americans a target but so are the people who live there, if they do not follow their ways. This movie is an eye-opener to how many people are just normal people and many are terrorists in Pakistan and other areas. It's a daily fight.

RIP Daniel Pearl

Created: 25/08/08
While the story is true and a sad one..God bless him and his Family..This film was too slow..I hated the way they jumped from the past to the present..Angelina Jolie did a great job bringing Daniel Pearl and his Widows story to the attention of viewers..I do love true stories, but this one falls short no real background..we will probably never know why those cowards chose to end the life of a innocent Man..or any innocent person for that matter..I am a firm believer that like suicide murder is a cowards way out! Sadly stuff like this happens all the time in less civilized areas this film just brings it into the light more and everyone needs a little allumination!

Real Story movie but ..Very SLOW MOVIE.

Created: 29/09/07
very very below than our expectations..

We like Angelina Jolie and the movie story was real story so thought to watch it BUT very very slow & boring making of this real story.

Better not to spend money to see in the hall..just wait for DVD and watch it at home..at least you won't feel like wasting time & money.

You can watch it one time at Home.
All the best!

Excellent Movie

Created: 22/10/07
I saw this in the theater when it came out and thought this was an excellent, smart and very executed film. It's not an action feature, so it's not for the short-attention spanned viewer. It views more in the documentary of a true story. You can see the painful, slow journey of the real-life wife, desperate to get her husband back. Angelina Jolie was amazing.
