The Campy Peking Man
Created: 16/04/11
This hilariously awful "King Kong" ripoff from the legendary Shaw Brothers Studio is brought to the American shores via filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's (Pulp Fiction) short-lived production company, Rolling Thunder Pictures.
A giant, ape-like creature, awakened from a long slumber, is captured and exploited by a greedy showman, and now it is up to everyman hero Johnnie (Danny Lee) and scantly-clad jungle woman Samantha (the lovely Evelyne Craft) to save the poor man's Kong from almost certain death.
It sure has all the hallmark of a 70's low-budget monster movie: unconvincing green-screen shots, over-the-top acting, DeWolfe stock music, bad editing, and a man in the ape suit.
I would recommend this gem of a gem for Shaw Brothers purists and lovers of camp cinema everywhere.

A simply wonderful addition to any giant monster fan's collection. Special effects are far better then you might expect and the story is fairly good when compared to similar films. It's doubtful it will impress viewers spoiled by computer generated scifi but it is worth it for any fan of classic b movies!
