Monstrously Good Entertainment
Created: 10/07/10
This movie is gaining popularity, thanks to the DVD, nearly 13 years after it's release... and for good reason. It's a well done, entertaining film about a group of kids who are monster aficionados [members of a monster club that meets in a tree house] that uncover a plot by Dracula himself, with the aid of the the werewolf, the mummy, creature from the Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein's monster, to rule the living. Yep, all the classic monsters are there. The kids join forces with an elderly German fellow in order to open a time/space portal that would forever banish the monsters from the realm of the living. In the meantime, Dracula and his cohorts wreak havoc on a small town while the Monster Squad tries to convince grown ups of the imminent danger. Of course, no one takes the kids seriously.
Sounds menacing, but more light-hearted than not [especially the story line with Frankenstein's monster who is befriended by a very young girl]. Although rated PG-13, it's a far more 'restrained PG-13' than today's envelope-pushing movies of the same rating. The intention seemed to be entertainment versus shock. So it's a relatively harmless blend of action suspense and humor.
I was fascinated with such things as a kid and would have absolutely loved this film. Unfortunately it came out 15 years too late. None-the-less, I enjoyed the movie as a young adult and still do today.

Universal Monsters meet The Monster Squad
Created: 18/03/08
What a fun ride! Count Dracula has until midnight to retrieve an ancient amulet that will give him final control over the delicate balance between good and evil. He uses the help of other monsters including the wolfman, the mummy, the creature and Frankenstein's monster. However,Dracula didn't count on the Monster Squad as a nemesis to stand in his way.
The movie gives great tribute to the original Universal Monsters but updated to make them look alittle more frightful. But not too much. The kids are also awesome that makes up the Monster Squad. Their headquarters is in a local treehouse.
It is a movie that kids and adults both will love and watch over and over again. If you loved Abbott and Costello Meets Frankenstein then you will love this movie as well.
So,who are you gonna call when you have monsters? The Monster Squad, thats who!

Good Old Fashioned Monster Fun for the Whole Family!

"The Monster Squad" is more of a cheesy 80's comedy than a creepy scary horror flick! It has a really neat storyline where a group of kids in a Monster Club stumble upon the existence of real monsters and Dracula's scheme to cover the world in an evil darkness. Special effects are semi-good. The movie is relatively fast paced and its run-time is pretty short. Definitely worth the time it takes to watch it! Mostly it's just good old fashioned fun that's suitable for the whole family!

"80's Horror Classic!"

Fred Dekker's 1987 horror film features Dracula,
Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolfman and
Gill Man together in one film. A group of kids
form a monster club and discover that their
horror icons are real. Like most, I grew up
with this film and always loved it. I'm glad
to have it on dvd that has good picture and
sound plus cool extras. Definitely get this
80's horror classic.

THIS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER!

I have seen alot of movies in my time, but this remains my absolutely all-time favorite movie. It's funny, it's clever, and it needs to be seen by everyone. Basically, it's a movie about kids who have a monster club only to discover that *gasp* there are REAL monsters in their town. They have to pull out all the stops and save the world before Dracula takes it over! Honestly, there is no way anyone can do this movie justice so just go see it. I swear to you, you will not be disappointed.
