monsters gone mild......

Just a clip show & not a very impressive one I'm afraid.
I mean, if the idea is to use this thing as a feature length commercial to get you to buy their DVDs, well, the people at Full Moon certainly didn't make the best choices, that's for sure, & there's no narration or captions or anything, so you have to go to the "Chapters" menu to even see what movies these scenes are from.
Oh, there is some good stuff here like the fight in the museum between two dinosaur skeletons from "Doctor Mordrid, Master of the Unknown", I won't deny that, but a lot of it is just dull & disjointed, not like their much more enjoyable "When Puppets & Dolls Attack".
And frankly I just don't consider witches & serial killers to be "monsters" by the strictest definition of the word.
The video quality is variable too, which doesn't bode well for what the films would look like if you were to buy them separately.
Why then do I give it an "average" rating instead of a "below average" or even a "poor"?
Well, to be honest, it's the extras, which when added together actually run longer than the 'film' itself!
I mean you get all these short but excellent VideoZone "making of" documentaries for "The Dead Hate The Living", "The Killer Eye", "Shrieker", "The Creeps", the first two "Subspecies" movies & the aforementioned "Dr. Mordrid" along with several others that do much more to peak my interest in the films in question than any of the lame clips they cobbled together.
Plus there's an interview with classic comic book artist Jack Kirby previously only available on the "CineMaker" DVD set which is now no longer available.
It is for all this cool stuff I bought "Monsters Gone Wild" for & not the main feature which I found very disappointing.
Still, to be frank I'm more than happy with the extras, & I am glad I got the disc for them alone, so if you are interested in that kind of stuff, I say go for it.
If not, stay far, far away...
(WARNING: do not confuse this DVD with the other one of the same name out there, a 5 disc set from the Advantage Collection featuring 10 classic B-movies including "The Brain That Wouldn't Die", "Attack of the Giant Leeches", "The Giant Gila Monster", "The Killer Shrews" & "The Screaming Skull".)

The Worst of Charles Band

The companion piece to this dvd, Aliens Gone Wild, is a pleasant & informative piece featuring segments of many of Charles Band's movies. However, Monsters Gone Wild is sluggish & boring, throwing in a few gore soaked scenes amid the dreary segments. It is by contrast, night & day, compared to Aliens... If you're really into Full Moon Pictures, you'd be about the only one who could enjoy this mish-mash of scenes, if you're not into Full Moon, I'd stay away from this and check out Aliens Gone Wild as it will appeal to any horror buff.
