Movie synopsis

Intelligent, funny, adorable, and beautifully animated, MONSTERS, INC. will delight fans of SHREK and TOY STORY, while drawing a new audience of curious, kid-friendly viewers. Billy Crystal and John Goodman make a fiercely funny comedic team as job partners and best friends, Mike (Crystal)--a little green guy with one huge eyeball, and Sulley (Goodman)--a big purple and blue fuzzy guy with dinosaur spikes down his back. Mike and Sully work at MONSTERS, INC., a gigantic corporation that captures the screams of little children and turns them into energy. To make the children scream, the monsters must enter each child's bedroom through the closet door, then deliver a frightening affront. The only problem is, kids aren't scared anymore. And because of this problem, Monsters, Inc. is in a jam. But when one little girl, Boo (Mary Gibbs), follows Sully through her closet door and into the factory, she brings an even more dire issue to the fore: the monsters are actually terrified of children. From Pixar Animation Studios, MONSTERS, INC. is an exciting adventure with a sweet, happy ending. Both the DVD and VHS releases include the animated short FOR THE BIRDS and a home video exclusive performance of "Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me" created by Mike Wazowski.

An Instant Classic Never To Be Forgotten

Created: 01/12/09
James P. Sullivan (voice of John Goodman), known as "Sulley" to friends, is a big, blue, hairy monster with horns on his head and hands the size of a watermelon. Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) is a wisecracking, one-eyed monster who is best friends to Sulley. Both live in Monstropolis, a world where monsters roam freely. Their city is powered by a rare source of power - children's screams. That is where Monsters, Incorporated comes in. At Monsters, Inc., monsters like Sulley and Mike open portals into children's rooms (through closet doors) and scare the children, capturing their screams in a little yellow bottle storing energy to power there grid. Sulley is the top-scarer, bringing in the most scares, however Randall (voiced by Steve Buscemi), a wormy, multiple-armed lizard-monster with the ability to change appearances to its surroundings, is jealous of Sulley, and will attempt anything to get more scares, even if it means taking a child from the real world and bringing it into Monstropolis. But after the child named Boo escapes, Sulley and Mike reluctantly look after it while trying to get it back to the real world before Mr. Waternoose (voice of James Coburn) and others find out about the incident.

"Monsters, Inc." does for monsters what "Toy Story" did for toys. Pixar once again not only expands our mind, but our very worlds. I respect their company and commitment values very much, as you can read in my "Toy Story" review. They stick to the values that made Disney films so family-friendly back in the fifties and sixties: Respect for the audience, respect for quality, and respect for the audience's INTELLIGENCE, something Disney, who has recently coughed up a bunch of lousy, thoughtless sequels, has forgotten.

"Monsters, Inc." is one of the most enjoyable animated films I have ever had the pleasure of viewing with my daughter. Monsters is an instant classic. I will be watching it years from now.

Not only has Pixar brought back the "Family Film" genre to what it should be, but it also redefines it. Pixar's animated films are some of the most thoughtful, imaginative and enjoyable animated films ever, not to mention 100 % family safe. Thank you, Pixar, for spending time to make this film right.

I'm giving this film a 5/5 for imaginative and strikingly difficult complexity of computer animation.

Monsters Inc. - A real animation classic from Pixar!

Created: 09/01/10
This is a great animated film from Disney Pixar, that becomes even more rewarding on repeated viewings. As good as the standard DVD was, the Blu ray edition is even more remarkable for picture and sound quality. The high point of the film is the character interaction of two old pros, John Goodman and Billy Crystal as the voices of the central characters and who really bring them to life. Special features are now remastered in Blu ray as icing on the cake. An A+ choice for your home theater collection!

Blu Ray for movies like this is the ONLY way to go!

Created: 03/12/09
Monsters Inc. 4 disc comes with the DVD... my advice... WATCH a little of it first (or simultaneously on a computer or something) to get the FULL impact of just how incredible Blu Ray is for detail and clarity. DVD was a HUGE step up from VHS.... but DVD is murkier and fuzzier than you might think... you will realize that when you watch a fun movie like this on Blu Ray disc... I can't even describe how AWESOME this was. My room was like a small theater with the lights down! This is a GREAT movie full of smiles and giggles and laughs and "Boo" (the little girl) is just the cutest! You NEED to have a movie like this in your collection if you have a Blu Ray player. Happy Holidays!

Great way to buy Blu-rays

Created: 01/02/10
I love to buy Blu-rays on eBay because I can get them at a fraction of the retail cost and in perfect condition. We received a Blu-ray player as a Christmas present so naturally we were anxious to enjoy the quality. We have decided to update our VHS/DVD library with Blu-ray discs. We really can't afford to do that all at once but by buying on eBay, we will be able to get quality, brand new discs, or like new discs at a greatly reduced price so that we will have our library up to date in no time! Monsters, Inc. has always been one of our favorites and this movie was a real bargain as it included 4 discs. I highly recommend buying your Blu-ray movies through eBay.

Great for explaining your kids to sleep

Created: 11/12/10
I love this movie. It's great to grab kids attention, but there's enough subtle adult humor to keep a parents attention. This a great way to explain the "boogieman" in the closet and "monsters under the bed" to kids after they get scared at night. But this is one of Pixar's greater ideas. Love this movie.
