Album Notes
Matchbox Twenty: Rob Thomas (vocals, piano); Paul Doucette (acoustic & electric guitar, piano, Clavinet, Mellotron, drums, percussion); Kyle Cook, Adam Gaynor (guitar, background vocals); Brain Yale (bass).Additional personnel includes: Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar); Carol Webb, Enrico Dicecco, Jonathan Minklage, Maura Giannini, Jan Mullen, Ricky Sortomme, Bonna Tecco (violin); Sue Pray, Sarah Adams, Crystal Garner, Vincent Lionti (viola); Eric Ralshe, Jerome Ashby (French horn); Paul Doucette (synthesizer); Matt Serletic (congas); Vanesse Thomas, Lydia Mann-Jaime, Melanie Daniels, Cheryl Pepsi Riley (background vocals).Recorded at Bearsville Studio, Woodstock, New York and The Hit Factory, New York, New York.MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Unwell" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. In between his commitments to the band, Matchbox Twenty singer-songwriter Rob Thomas had spent the time leading up to the group's third album collaborating with everyone from Willie Nelson to Mick Jagger (his resuscitation of Carlos Santana's career already being old news by this point). Despite all these star turns, Thomas returned dutifully to the fold, and MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU ARE definitely sounds like a band effort, not just Rob-and-the-other-guys.While the catchy "Disease" (no pun intended) occasionally comes a little too close to Carly Simon's "You Belong to Me" for comfort, its musical insistence and inventive production make it stick in the memory. "Bright Lights," with it's piano-laden elegiac feel, is somewhat akin to the Train hit "Drops of Jupiter." "Downfall" starts out like a rowdy piece of alt-rock, but eventually drops into a surprising gospel feel, complete with choir. Like the opening track "Feel," "You're So Real" is a hard-charging rocker full of nasty riffs, but it's followed by album-closer (not counting a subsequent hidden track) "The Difference," a power-ballad that's the closest thing on the album to what longtime fans might have been expecting from their mercurial heroes.

More Than You Think You Are

Created: 20/06/09
As a huge Matchbox Twenty fan, I found this CD to be good, but not nearly as good as Yourself Or Someone Like You, or Mad Season. I probably would have rated it as average except that Rob Thomas' voice is so amazing. He can make you listen to even a not so good song. My personal favorite is "All I Need". Other good ones are Disease and Bright Lights....radio faves. It's a must-have for fans but may not be adored as much as the previous CDS.

You'll be hard pressed to find a bad track!

If you like Matchbox Twenty, you will love this CD. It's a CD that you can listen to from start to finish, with each song evoking excitement. I'm hard pressed to find a truly bad song on the CD. Although it's an alternative CD, it is some of the softer alternative music you will hear. If you like artists such as Keene, The Killers, and Train, More Than You Think You Are is not a CD to be missed.

One of the BEST CDs in my collection!

I bought this particular copy of the CD just to use in an artwork piece I am making that will include the album cover, the CD and a radio promotion poster. The music from Matchbox Twenty is engaging and addictive, whether it's the first time you've heard the songs or the 100th. If you have never heard any of MB20's album songs OTHER THAN their obvious hits, then you are missing out! Snap up a copy of this CD - you won't regret it!!

great album - one of my favorites. Downfall is my favorite track on this one.
I like Rob Thomas in the group much better than his solo work.

I love this album. The big hits are awesome, and the other not so famous songs are also really good. This might be a bland review, but I give Matchbox Twenty another + for this cd. If you're a fan, Buy it!
