The start of something great!

This is the game that had senators losing sleep at night, and your parents, too. This game alone was the cause for what we know today as the ESRB. The violence in this game was unprecedented for the era, although it didnt carry over from the arcade version to the SNES. The Genesis version did, though. Which explains why it outsold the SNES at a ratio of 4:1.
This is the original classic 2D arcade fighting game that started it all in all its glory. 7 classic characters and 2 unplayable bosses will challenge your skills. If you think youre tough, try the mirror matches. You will be defeated!
Overall, the fun factor of this game is as high now as it was in 1990. A console defining title for Genesis or SNES, you NEED this game in your collection.

You might already be familiar with this long-running arcade and home-system 3D fighting series or perhaps you live in a cave. No matter where you live, you'll enjoy the ultra-violent action of the world's most popular fighting game in its original format. In this first installment of the game that revolutionized arena-style, hand-to-hand combat, you'll choose from eight unique characters, each with his or her own special moves and defenses. If you can defeat your opponents in two out of three rounds, you'll advance to the next stage. The blood flows freely, as each match ends with the victor attempting to pull off a finishing move that will leave the defeated party mangled, decapitated, or exploded into bits. Whether you're looking for a history lesson or just a great fighting game, this classic still takes the cake.

They had it down on music, sound, and graphics. But Nintendo censored the Fatalities and completely cut out the blood. It was near arcade perfect but then they did that. Plus, they changed the word "Fatality" to "Finishing Bonus" like it would make a difference. what were they thinking!?!? Especially to those of us who never had the privelage of playing it in the arcades. the controls are irresponsive and sometimes it doesn't respond at all. There are gameplay glitches that can make you either win or die soooooooo easily. Oh lets not forget that the pit is still there, but rather than remove the spikes from the pit so that it makes sense of the SNES's lack of blood, they kept the spikes there making the pit look stupid. 2 of the censored fatalities are tasteful(Sub-Zero and Rayden) but a few was painful to watch (Johnny Cage, Kano and Liu Kang) don't get me wrong, liu kang's was never that great but without blood it's even more empty. at least Sonya and Scorpions are alright. the fatality screams are atrotious, "ayeeayeeaah!!!" uuuuunnngghghghgh, it makes my skin crawl!! just get the Genesis version, at least you can see the FATALITIES you crave.

Mortal Kombat

I had to have this game because it's a classic. I played this in arcades in my youth and probably spent a small fortune in quarters on it. To be able to play it at home occasionally, is priceless. Anyone who's spent time in an arcade would recognize this and some(like my friends) still remember how to play it.

It's why arcades were made.

Mortal Kombat started a huge franchise with a cult following. MK performed a gory Fatality on Street Fighter by putting great graphics, interesting new characters, stunning attacks, and of course Fatalities. The first time I fought Goro and Shang Tsung on my SNES is a time I will never forget. Mortal Kombat is probably one of the best Arcade games ever made.
