You're going to want to upgrade it
Created: 10/03/11
I'm a university student studying Computer Science, and draw comics as a hobby. I got the tablet for drawing, and to take notes during classes such as math. The processor was better then expected for a single core, but the ram posed an issue.
I manually upgraded it to 2gb's of ram (use a 200pin single chip if you want to upgrade it, my 2gb chip costs $50 at futureshop), but the built-in 512mb chip was disabled - leading me to believe 2gb is the limit the motherboard can handle.
Once I had more ram inside it, I started the install for Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit). I installed W7 off of a flashdrive (Google, if you want to know how) and now the tablet is a decent amount faster then it was before. I had some issues with the drivers but nothing some light Googling couldn't fix.
I didn't get a new harddrive for it, leaving the 30gb internal it came with, and just purchased a tiny little 16gb flash drive ($40 at futureshop) I could keep in a usb port and a 2gb MicroSD card in the SD slot for extra storage.
If you wanted to upgrade the hard dirve, though, you would need to buy a 1.8inch IDE drive, either Ziff or 50-pin ATA (not all LE1600's use the same hard drive type, it will be one or the other, except you could get a converter - although those tend to be a bit bulky). Photoshop CS5 works perfectly for drawing, the default pen driver for Windows 7 being almost on-point accurate.
To list it:
Pros - Decent processing power, ram is upgradable, meaning it is quite fast for a tablet.
- The battery of the used tablet still had a good 2-3 hour charge in it
- Has pressure sensitivity so it's great to draw on.
- Accurate pen, good for taking notes in class or drawing in Photoshop.
- Lightweight, very portable.
- Upgrades to Windows 7 perfectly on its tiny hard drive.
- Full Windows 7, so it has great software compatibility.
- Built-in wireless G adapter is stronger than some other ones I've seen.
- Sd Card slot, for even more storage options.
- Has a built-in ethernet cable port.
Cons - The default hard drive will have you seeking better storage option.
- Heats up quickly
- The Motion Dashboard and Omnipass software are hefty and unnecessary.
- Without Omnipass, the finger print reader won't operate as advertised (thought it can still be used, just with different driver software)
- Processor is still just a single core.
- Doesn't support full Windows Aero (this is just cosmetic, though)
- Case cracks easier then I was lead to believe
- Low quality screws on the ram-coverplate. My screwdriver ended up digging right into them.
- doesn't have any sort of tilt-sensitivity, so if you tilt the pen, the cursor will stay wherever it would be if the pen was going 90 degrees off the surface.
Purchased mine from the seller hdltron for $190, and it was my first ebay purchase ever. I am quite satisfied with the tablet and would recommend it to friends; but because of its single core processor, anyone expecting some sort of power-house will be left unsatisfied.

Bought used on the recommendation of a colleague in the Home Inspection business. Great deal on the tablet & hardcase (made by Motion). The tablet has exceeded my expectations. I will be keeping an eye on Ebay for a newer model in the near future. Perfect platform for my applications!

Tablet computer.

I was not sure about this old of a tablet computer. I have seen other tablets with key board. Once I got the motion computing LE1600 I really like it. Its light, thin. I thus bought the 2nd battery and snap on keyboard and it really made this a great little computer. For being 3 years old and out dated processor it dose every thing most other larger laptops will do. It dose not have a cd drive but a portable one works great. I upgraded from xp tablet to win 7 ultimate and it is much smoother to use. The on screen keyboard is better to use and easy to get to when using other programs. Now that I have use the motion LE1600 I will now spend the money to but the newer model. Well worth it.

The difficult computer!

This tablet computer is the most difficult piece of equipment I worked with. If you have the VIEW ANYWHERE screen and the glass on top is cracked... Good luck. You will speng $500 for new LCD. You cannot separate glas from the lcd, don't even count on it. I tried. The computer itself is nice and light. Battery is very hard to find, I found an old used battery for $55, just so I can close the gaping hole. Now we come to installing windows on it. If will not take just any XP it has to be a specific XP disk. Installing Vista (we all know vista sucks) makes computer go SLOOOOOW and overheats it. Drivers for Sound and WIFI, on manufacturer's website, are BAD. I had to locate drivers on the internet. I wanted to make this tablet a toy for my kid, and it frustrated the life out of me, Once I got it going it was too slow and poor kid was impatient tapping on the screen and asking about why there is a crack.
So, to recap in one word: Frustrating!
Get one that works and has all software preinstalled. A protective rubber boot is a must with kids.
