I like this cable modem.
It has the same speed as the one I rented from Comcast (SB5200).
NOTE: if you're a Comcast customer, you would need to call Comcast first to register this modem. Do not forget to press a switch button on the top of the modem (in case if your green lights are OFF).
Also, when I turn OFF my computer or put it in the "Stand By" mode, I push the modem's ON/OFF switch to turn it OFF.
This enables my Internet connection to be active when I turn ON my PC the next day.

My old Terayon cablemodem died last week. It worked well, but it was almost 5 years old. I broke out the Toshiba cablemodem I had in my spares box. It worked. Barely. Throughput was so slow, my wife was in a foul mood for a week. I had this Motorola SB5120 Surfboard ordered within 24 hours of putting on the Toshiba, but it was a LOOOOOONG wait for the modem to arrive. When it did, I didn't let it warm up before installing it, and calling the cable company (Suddenlink) to provision it in. Within minutes, high speed cable surfing resumed! The Toshiba was DOCSIS ready, but something in the firmware just wasn't universal. The Motorola was up to the task, and is working perfectly, now. Maybe the future's superlarge optical networks will require an upgrade, but until then, I'm happy with this. My advice is, if you're not sure, go with a brand you can trust.

This is the defacto standard for cable modems in the US. In addition, Motorola builds boxes that are good from day one, and forever. Never have to send one back. The new standard will be docsis 3 and Motorola has that covered with the SB6120... watch for it!
