In Motown's early days, Berry Gordy's "Sound Of Young America" crossed racial lines and quickly became a part of America's cultural identity. Starting with 1961's "Please Mr. Postman" and "Shop Around" (by The Marvelettes and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles respectively), Motown quickly became a major presence at the top of the charts. Throughout the '60s, talent flowed from the Motown studios whether it was in the form of artists (Gladys Knight, The Temptations, The Supremes) or songwriters (Holland-Dozier-Holland, Whitfield-Strong). Gordy's knack for finding musical gold took him through the '70s (Jackson 5, The Commodores), the '80s (Rick James, Dazz Band) and into the '90s (Shanice, Boyz II Men).

Look at what these CD contains before you buy. I liked the first CD better. It had the old time music I can relate to. The second CD is ok although I'm leaning towards the first one. I mean, who doesn't want to dance to MC Hammer's, "Can't Touch This?" I'm glad I purchased these CDs I hope you will too!

Motown 40 Forever by Various Artists

    Created: 07/01/10
Wide variety of great hits by several great artists. A must buy if you are a Motown fan. Comes on a 2-CD set....well worth the price....brings back great memories of the "easier" times. Well-formatted in the sequence of songs and singers.

    Great Oldies Music

    Created: 02/06/10
It is by the original artist and not remakes. The CD's have various songs instead of the same singer, which I find more entertaining. Really enjoy it and would recommend it to others!!
