Mr. Magoo's Chriustmas Carol
Created: 04/02/11
I bought this dvd to replace a lost vhs version of the same movie. For many years, since the sixties, this was shown on television during the holiday season. It is a musical animated (old style) retelling of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. It is my favorite Christmas story and favorite version of it. For years, Mr. Magoo was overlooked as a dramatic actor in view of his comedic work on his television show. This is a beautiful happy version of the story, but seeing cartoon Tiny Tim's tiny cartoon crutch in the cartoon corner by the cartoon fireplace during The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come's forewarning Scrooge (Magoo) of what may happen if he doesn't mend his ways still brings tears to my eyes. It is almost as sad as when young Ebenezer was left alone at school during the holidays, with no friends to accompany him. I recommend this movie for anyone who loves the Christmas season, Dickens, or Mr. Magoo.

Mr Magoo Christmas Carol

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas Stories. That is why I thought of purchasing it on ebay. The product is in excellent condition and the price was unbelievably right. I have no dislikes to report. I was very happy with this item.
I watched Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol every year while a child and a teen. It is my favorite version. I not only like animation, but Mr. Magoo was my no. 1 character because he is so funny. Although it is animated, the moral of the story still comes through. Probably even better.

Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol

As an English teacher I found 'Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol' to be a wonderful way to offer students a creative twist on the classic Dickens tale. This year I wanted my students to see various renditions of the play and learn more about how different director's analyze and present content to an audience. Always engaging, Jim Backus brings to life a modern day glimpse into the protagonist Scrooge. His character, Mr. Magoo, nearsightedly walks into what he thinks is the starring role in his town's local musical-production of 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL'. We see him trying to get to the theater on time, but .....So it is a play within a play, offering a nice balance of humor and drama and I was excited to find it so quickly on e-bay.

I grew up watching Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol every Christmas as a child. I love this cartoon depiction. Though it's a shortened version, it's one of the best versions of a Christmas Carol. The music in it is broadway quality. I particularly love the singing robbers that steals Scrooge's belongings after he "dies." Anyone unfamiliar with this version, and would like to see a "retro" 60's cartoon depiction, this is it!

A Classic Cartoon

Mr. Magoo is a blast from my past, although it always bothered me that he ignored his obvious visual impairment (LOL). As far as this version of A Christmas Carol goes, it is kind of fun to watch, but a bit on the corny side.
It is set as a theatrical performance, yet parts of it contain imagery that would be impossible in a theatrical performance. This leaves me feeling confused as to whether Mr. Magoo is acting in a performance, or else he really is Scrooge!
OK, perhaps I am taking this thing a bit too serious?! In a cartoon anything goes! My daughter likes it, and I guess that is all that really matters anyway.
So, don't expect anything grandiose, let your hair down and just enjoy watching a 60's style cartoon with your own brood (or grand-brood if such is the case).
