Give Mrs. Jeffries & Emily Brightwell a Try!

    Created: 04/05/09
I characterize myself as a cozy murder reader, but I enjoy Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown as much as Patricia Sprinkle and when I found myself running out of their books (along with Carolyn Hart, Stanbenow, Hess and a few others) I stumbled upon one of Emily Brightwell's "Mrs. Jeffries" books. I was hooked from the first book I read and set about trying to acquire them all, so I could read them in order. This is helpful but not essential to understanding the overall situation.

As a rule, when I am reading fiction, I am killing time waiting to pick up one of the kids and I don't want to be reading something I have to really pay attention to. Brightwell's books fill the bill. They are very interesting and are sprinkled with facts about the Victorian England era that I certainly never knew, but she doesn't get carried away trying to educate the reader, she carefully weaves a plot that more often than naught, surprises me with the outcome.

They are light reading, but they are still very habit forming and the characters are like family before the end of the first book. There is just enough drama, romance, intrigue, and mystery to keep the reader entertained without overwhelming.

Going to the beach this summer? Get several of her early books-you won't be sorry.
