Truth, Justice and the American Comedy
Created: 09/01/07
One of the better comedies I've seen and most worthy of the personal collection. Jack Lemmon and James Garner were absolutely delightful as polar opposite former Presidents forced to work together to stay alive. Set up for an "assassination", their escape from the attempt was hillarious. And their trials and tribulations trying to get back "home"...well, you'll just have to see it to believe it. They learn about the country and come to new understandings as to how the country works, and the people think, outside of Washington. The verbal stabs were gut wrenchingly funny. I don't recommend it for little children or extreme right/religious types as the language and content can get a bit...crass. But if you want to laugh, this is the movie that will do it for you, time and again.

Political Humor Stills Holds Up
Created: 04/08/07
Released in 1997, this Jack Lemmon-James Garner comedy still holds up. The political humor seems even more apropos today in red state-blue state America. Jokes abound as Lemmon and Garner go on a road trip to clear their names - and avoid being bumped off - in a looming political scandal. Enjoy seeing Bradley Whitford in pre-West Wing days - he's got a lot more hair. Not for the kids as the language is a little rough - especially spouted by Lemmon's character. The silly conspiracy plot is pure fun. Enjoy!

My Fellow Americans

Hysterically funny story about two former US presidents who have been implicated in a Washington scandal. After a failed attempt to kill them, by a rogue CIA agent, they embark on a roundabout journey that leads them back to Washington. Along the way, they are being chased by the CIA with orders to take them and kill them. As they stay one step ahead of their pursuers, they constantly take verbal stabs at each other. The one-liners in this film are great! Lemmon and Garner at their funniest!

I purchased this DVD for two reasons...the actors and the price!
I love James Garner and Jack Lemmon. You need to pay close attention to this movie to understand all that is going on. I did not enjoy all the cussing even though it made me laugh.
I really enjoyed the references made to little known towns like Galax, VA and Cyahoga Falls, OH of which I am familiar with both.
It will probably be years before I watch this movie again...if I don't first sell it in a garage sale!
