    My Own Private Idaho

This movie brings attention to the discarded children living in cities all over our country. River Phoenix gave a brilliant performance as a street boy with narcolepsy who wants to find his mother. During his narcoleptic seizures, he dreams of his own private Idaho. Keanu Reeves performance is equally powerful as a child of wealth and privilege who has chosen to live on the streets. I loved the thought provoking ways in which the subject is presented. I decided to buy it because I'm a big Keanu Reeves fan. I was amazed by River Phoenix's ability to portray his character with such depth and conviction. With his early death our world lost a great talent.

    I found it !

    Created: 03/02/08
This is a film I feel very close to. The landscape is very familiar, being an Oregonian. Watching it, I thought, "oh-I know just where that is!!" The grungy youth, transients, scrappy street-life, all ring true in Portland. This can very well happen, and probably did. It's an honest film with a quirky Shakespearean language that draws you in. I was touched by Mike's need to be loved, his need for everything, actually, knowing life was not easy. Scott, though, was living this life knowing there was an end to the misery if he would only take it. They are like two ends of a spectrum.
I love that it was available to me through ebay, it just is not that easy to find, unless you really hunt. I am a huge Keanu fan, and to me, this is one of his finest, non-contrived performances. He's real and credible. As for River, well, this was just a tip of the iceburg, but we'll never know fully what he had to offer. Like a sad promise of things to come.
If you love indie films, Keanu films, River films, whatever, this is a must-have. It gives clarity to our very real caste system and our place in the world.
