Myst (Sony PlayStation 1, 1996)

THIS IS A EXCELLENT PS1 GAME! IT PLAYS LIKE A 1ST PERSON /COMPUTER SET UP.YOU CLICK ALL OVER FOR EXPLORING~WALKING IN ANY DIRECTION~OPEN THINGS~USE THINGS~LOTS OF CLICKING INVOLVED!
THIS GAME IS CAPTIVATING,SO MUCH TO SEE,AND EXPLORE!AND I DO MEAN EXPLORE! PEEK EVERYWHERES,LOOK UP,DOWN,LEFT AND RIGHT.YOU WILL ALSO LOOK FOR ATRUS NOTES.HE IS A PLANET EXPLORER,AND HIS NOTES HELP YOU ADVANCE,FIGURE OUT CLUES,FIND HIDDEN SECRETS.
I BOUGHT THIS PS1 GAME,AS I COULD REMEBER THIS AS A COMPUTER GAME,MY FRIENDS TALKED ABOUT.IT GOT MANY PRAISES AS COMPUTER GAME,SO I THOUGHT I'D LOOK FOR IT,SO I COULD FINALLY PLAY IT.WHEN I FOUND IT OUT ON PS1 I KNEW I JUST HAS TO BUY IT~SO HAPPY I DID.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS GAME IS,IT INVOLVES,THINKING,MEMORY,PATIE​NCE~LOTS OF THIS,TOO! I FELT REALLY GREAT,EACH TIME I ADVANCED,FOUND SECRETS,PUT CLUES TOGETHER.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE A FIRST WAS THE CONSTANT CLICKING,TONS OF IT! I STOPPED THE GAME,HOPPED BACK ON EBAY,AND BOUGHT MYSELF A;PS2 MOUSE-FIXED MY IRRITATION OF CONSTANT CLICKING!{I PLAYED THIS ON MY PS2 SYSTEM,USED PS1 MEMORY CARD,PS2 WIRELESS I SWITCHED TO PS2 MOUSE}.
THIS GAME IS RIGHT UP THERE,WITH TOP 100 GAMES FROM YEARS AGO.IT DELIVERS SO MUCH,NOT A BORING REPETATIVE GAME.KEEPS YOU ON YOUR TOES.GRANTED THERE IS NO WARS,BLOODY SCENES,BATTLES...BUT IT DOES OFFER SO MUCH MORE! THIS GAME WOULD BE GREAT FOR AGES 12YRS. TO 101 YRS.OLD :-}

A great concept that falls short in execution. Myst is meant to be an experience in which you are supposedly there. You'll here ambient noises occasionally music and real human voices. The object of the game is to explore the island in first-person perspective with only a hand icon to manipulate the environment (moving, flipping switches, pressing buttons, etc.)to discover what the devices and rooms around the island are used for and what it is that your supposed to accomplish (I'm not giving that away). I took a lot of notes early on not knowing what would be important in solving the puzzles. However once I got the strategy guide I soon realized by necessity (the puzzles are extremely difficult) that there really wasn't much to do in the game and allot of my accumulated notes that I took from the journals in the library (in game)were useless! What kept me playing was the awesome visuals and interesting story. So after I finished I decided it worthwhile that I play the sequel Riven which I would highly recommend. It's not perfect but its done so much better than Myst. A much bigger game as well that's "ages" beyond Myst.

Myst has always been my favorite computer game. Family friendly, with no violence or bad language, it sucks you into a wonderful, mesmerizing plot. The puzzles can be tricky, but it's a great group experience. I purchased the Playstation version so I can always go back and play the game, since computer games become useless once you upgrade your system.

Myst is slightly less 'intuitive' to play with a video controller than a mouse, but it's the exact same game as the PC/Mac.

It's a great game for puzzle lovers. It's quite difficult at times to the point where one would have to think really hard, or cheat to be able to solve the puzzles in game. Great game play though, and really interesting puzzles.

I have not played it all the way through but immediately on starting I notice a huge weakness, even a lot of inferior monitors have FAR better clarity than standard television. This is especially important when you have to read the handwritten clues.
Also controling with a mouse I find easier than with the playstation controller, but that could be a personal preference. Otherwise it seems to be the same great game.
