N3: Ninety-Nine Nights

I love the fact this game is innovative about how you can battle hundreds of enemies at once, you can also do special attacks to eviscerate a mass number of enemies. What was unexpected for me, was playing the same game over again just with a different character, i didn't like it that much. Considering i had played "Gears of War" previously and loved that to bits, i thought this RPG was really tame, but still an awesome game still worthy of being bought.
I also didn't like the voice acting, that kinda sucked big time. I consider this an average game, based not on graphics or sound but on gameplay. I'm thinking when Microsoft put this game out was when they launched the Xbox 360, so there was a rush also to put out games right away. So, compared to other great xbox 360 games out there, this is an average rating for me. Good game but, needs considerable improvements.
I didn't like it that Asphar had only 3 item slots (1 for a weapon, and only 2 others for other items to protect himself), that really blowed. Rather, Imphhys had 5 slots (1 for weapon, 4 for other items).
I've only the game for a couple days now, and i'm sure i'll be disappointed about other things too, but i can honestly say the sound and graphics are spectacular, especially when you kill a monster-horde of enemies all at once with a special attack or an orb attack which is really really kewl.
I can say though this game compared to "X-Men: The Official Game" is way way better. I thought that X-MEN game was nice but just cheap, this is way more interesting for me. Plus you can kill tons of enemies all at once! Sure Wolverine is nice and that whole Comic genre is alright, but that game has nothing on this RPG. I guess that just depends on your taste of entertainment.
Well, i guess for the price i bought it ($17) was really good as far as older xbox 360 games go, so i guess i have little right to complain. But for the most part i'm satisfied with this game as much as i'm going to be.
Well, now for my next game! Weeeee!

N3: Ninety-Nine Nights for the Xbox 360
Created: 05/07/07
N3: Ninety-Nine Nights for Xbox 360 is a fantastic game mixing great elements into a unique fast-action paced strategy title of un-exaggerated epic proportion; granted, it's more of an action game, but decisions in your battle will play out how you and your squad survive through the game.
In the start of this game, you can play as either one of two characters and unlock more characters as you proceed as each character, each having their own plot line that relates to every character in the game in some form or fashion. Be advised: it's recommended that you go through the game a character at a time, rather than playing as a new character right as you obtain one. The problem is that if you chose a new character before finishing your previous character, you run the chance of losing all the data for that previous character and may have to start from the beginning with your old character. It happened to me and that was one draw back, but the pluses to this game outweigh that unfortunate programming condition.
The Pluses: Each character has their own attack style, whether it's weapons, magic, etc. I'm not even done with the game yet, but I understand that there are about 100 different weapons to be obtained for all the characters. As mentioned, some use weapons - the two main characters use weapons: Inphyy, the princess uses a sword and her brother Aspharr, a staff. The two use fighting moves that are almost reminiscent of Soul Calibur fame. I can't speak for the other unlockable characters since I'm still going through the game, but seeing the characters fight in massive hordes of rival armies is amazing! "Massive hordes"? Yes, that's no understatement - some battles having you fighting off hundreds upon hundreds of enemies. Fortunately, you have a squad of soldiers you can control to aid your battle, ranging from archers, pikemen, infantry and heavy infantry, so the odds aren't entirely against you. Battles can get long however since it's real time combat and some enemies do take some time to defeat. Some may not like that, but if you enjoy a challenge through endurance, this is a good game for you.
More pluses - the landscape within the game. The programmers who worked on this title did an amazing job of scenery development. Many gamers from my day know about "Pop-Up" in landscape. Phenomenal programming mixed with the power of the XBOX 360 eliminate any Pop-up in the landscape, so you truly enjoy looking at the horizon of the battle field. While some of the battle grounds have you deep in the woods, others are wide open fields showing lush flora, castle structures, mountains in the distance - it truly can be breath taking.
Even more pluses - What is a game without more unlockable features? Since this game is on the XBOX 360, you get points added to your gamerscore as you accomplish events in the game, such as completing the game as each character, or defeating boards at a particular ranking. Along with that, there are artworks you can unlock in the game by obtaining points which are awarded at the end of each battle. The higher the rank of your battle, the more points you get to unlock stuff. Aside from unlocking, you can also tweak your character to use different weapons, and have more add-ons to help your character become faster, stronger, deadlier, etc.
So, you have great graphics, a good story, lots of action. The only thing I would have desired in this title would have been multi-player, but overall, it's a fantastic game!

An oldie but still a good one.

A long time ago when the xbox 360 came out and it was still a dream in most kids' eyes my friend had one and he had this game. It was still brand new at the time and had amazing graphics for this new generation of gaming. It was then that I knew I would have to play this game again. So now about 4 years later I suddenly remembered this game and decided to scout around for it on eBay. After finding it I bought it for only $14 which I think was a pretty good deal. After all it is ported over from Japan and they don't make it anymore so it could be considered a collector's item to some. After playing it I realized how close it was to Dynasty Warriors but different in it's own way. You get to play as 7 characters throughout the game unlocking each as you continue through the story. The oddity of this game is that each character has a different story through the same plot. You will find yourself in many of the same locations but with different things happening before and after. I love the fact that they did this to leave a lot of the thinking to you. What exactly happened? Who's story is the real one? Both are good questions for this game but only the true answer will be answered in the upcoming sequel. It's definitely a hack'n'slash but with some interesting RPG elements. I give this game an excellent rating because of fun memories and a simple play style. I will however note here the extreme gimmicks within the game. The final boss cannot be beaten without a special armband you find within the last level. Another gimmick is there are no halfway saving points, you lose you start the level over. Also be sure to be cheap yourself sometimes just using a simple toss move can be decisive in a boss battle. Sometimes it feels cheap I know... but its always smarter to stay safe no?

Stunning graphics & fast action does NOT = good game
Created: 28/12/06
If you like the typical standard hack-and-slash-one-man-army, then you'll probably love this game! I bought this game b/c of its similarities to DW, which I spent more hours playing probably than all my other games. I loved Dynasty Warrior 3! Especially getting all the option 4th Weapons and unlocking dozens of characters, which had to be played on the hardest level, which made the game much more than your typical hack and slash to me, which seems that is all there is to N3.
Pros: 1) stunning visual graphics all the time, 2) extremely fast action moves, sweet long combos to perform on literally hundreds of enemies, 3) a moderate level a difficulty that you die more than you'd like, and 4) you get 100 points for completing each person's stages.
Cons: geez, where to start... 1) no different levels of difficulty to choose from (your stuck with what it is, regardless of how hard or easy it is for you), 2) the story is weak but that is probably b/c there are only about 6 stages per character, 3) there are only a handful of characters total, 4) the map sucks, its hard tell if you're going north or south let alone up an actual path or into a dead end, and 5) the camera angles are very hard to control - its hard to tell who is a good or bad guy as their only indicated are on their FEET!
DW3 difference: 1) 4 levels of difficulty, 2) dozens of unlockable characters to play with, 3) dozens of possible missions, 4) several generals on battle field, enemy and allied and gate captains, 5) an optional screen sized map locating all information, and 6) the option to save during a mission.
Bottom line: Its your AVERAGE hack and slash one man army with upgraded mouth watering graphics...

Combination of Two Games, Less Than Half the Features
Created: 14/03/10
It's safe to say pretty much everyone knows the series "Dynasty Warriors" developed by Koei and "Kingdom Under Fire" developed by Phantagram. Those series in their own right set the standard for games in their genre of hack 'n slash mixed with strategic elements. I bought this game because the demo gave me a glimpse of something fresh, new, epic. Surprisingly Ninety-nine nights was developed by the creators of Kingdom Under Fire which confirmed my buying of this game. Once I got the full game that fresh, new, epic feeling left and it showed its true colors of old, shallow, and repetitive.
Looking at the achievements for the game you can already tell how much effort was put into this game. There are about 10 or so achievements each ranging from about 50-200 points each and they're all basically "beat the game". I chose Inphyy to start the game off with. Her level was a simple field with a few buildings in the background. Throughout the game you'll notice that most levels are like this. I can accept this with dynasty warriors as it's based on a book and Koei has a strict "If its not in the book, it's not in the game" policy (trust me, 1000s have tried to persuade them), but this is a stand-alone game on next generation console!!! There's no excuse for bland level design. Graphically it's average, but even the physics aren't up to par as when some of the characters talk their mouths don't move (a problem we thought solved mid-way through the last generation's lifespan). Lip movement also doesn't match with what people are saying sometimes, but that can be contributed to using lip movement from the asian language because it was released in asia.
Gameplay is very shallow. There are a number of frustrating glitches and oddly placed items. To anyone buying this game I suggest you don't kill anyone near a wall or any other unbreakable physical object or you'll be furious when the enemy finally drops an item you need and you can't get to it because some invisible force is keeping you from getting it...even though its a few feet away. Half the pick-ups are just randomly scattered onto a map. You'll go way out of your way (I'm talking a 10 minute walk with no enemies for miles, through secret passages, hopping fences, destroying walls, etc) to find a lonesome treasure chest hoping to find a new weapon or equipable item only for it to be a health/mp potion which you'll never need because if you keep tapping the X to attack you'll never get hit and even if you do you won't take damage because the game is glitchy between animations. It's as if the developers were deliberately trying to mess with you...either that or lazy.
The unlockable characters are a mix of terrible and godlike. Almost all of them have 5 basic moves, but when you level the last 3 it only upgrades those 5 or less basic moves meaning some characters won't even have combos. The simplest character has one useful move and that's...tap x. Yes, tap x...shallowness at its best (and this is the godlike character xP). The rest of the characters have about 8 combos each, half of which you won't even touch.
There is hardly any sound other than your blade and death howls you hear during combat. I only heard 2 songs that played endlessly on a loop depending on the level. Other than that it has one of the most epic main menu songs I've heard.
Plot? Copy and Paste Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes's story (yes it's very obvious).
Less than half the features of either DW & KUF? No surprise here.
