The creature IS nice...but listen to the lyrics!

Always enjoyed the super-silly sci-fi spoof "The Creature Wasn't Nice" which I first saw on videotape under the title "Spaceship" but avoided it on DVD for the longest time, mostly because of it being released under still ANOTHER title ripping off a Leslie Nielsen movie & because the box looked so cheap & lousy.
Well, imagine my surprise when I finally got a copy of "Naked Space" & saw how nice it looked.
Sure, it was a bare bones disc released in the full screen format, but the picture was so clear that I could finally SEE the Grateful Dead logo on Rodzinski's hat that gets such a prominent credit in the end titles!
As for the movie itself, well, I love it of course, but does that mean you will?
First off, it's a musical, a semi-sequel of sorts to writer/producer/director/star Bruce Kimmel & Cindy "Laverne & Shirley" Williams' earlier co-production "The First Nudie Musical" (& no, she wasn't naked in that one just like she isn't naked in this one...), & if that doesn't turn you off, you might get a kick out of this wacky little film (& any movie that features a singing & dancing 7 ft. tall one-eyed rubber monster performing the show-stopper "I Want To Eat Your Face" is my idea of a fun flick!).
Sure, it's cheap (I mean, they edit in found footage from the Japanese sixties sci-fi superhero series "Spectreman" & get away with it!), but that's part of its charm.
It's got a great cast too, with not only Neilsen & Williams but also the always wonderful eccentric English actor Patrick "The Avengers" Macnee & the highly underrated American comedian Gerrit "Phantom of the Paradise" Graham.
Not for every taste (& some people say I don't have any!), but if you want to see a wonderfully weird, good old-fashioned small scale comedy that doesn't go out of its way to offend you, give "Naked Space" a try.

An entertaining and misunderstood film

Honestly i've seen many bad reviews of this movie floating around, and I must say that for a good many people they will ring true. For die hard Leslie Nielsen fans, and those who can appreciate a low budget comedy, this movie delivers the laughs. Naked Space (aka the creature wasn't nice) is full of funny moments and has plenty of memorable lines and scenes. The less than stellar film quality will deter many as well as the cheap looking sets, but those were not an issue for me.You shouldn't come into this movie expecting a blockbuster or you will more than likely be sorely dissapointed. On a final note, I recommend this underrated film to die hard fans of Leslie Nielsen, or fans of goofball lowbudget films.

Spoof comedy at it's best. Mel Brooks is great.... Go to the Internation Movie Data Base and catch all the background info, goofs, and gags then re-watch the movie. It is funnier the second time.

Fun, but low budget movie. Great fun if you like these kinds of things. Farcical, but I like Leslie Nielson. Kids would probably like it also.
