The Native Americans: The Indigenous People of North America by William C. Sturtevant and Colin F. Taylor (1991, Book, Illustrated)

This is one of the better general knowledge books on the market about Native Americans and their material accoutrement of the culture. There are some wonderful photos presented of museum artifacts that provide a good representation of the specific tribes' everyday and special occasion trappings.

Countless photos from the archives of museums and libraries depict everyday life, important events and notable individuals of tribes across the country. Many of these photos may not be found anywhere else.

Colin Taylor is well known for his expertise and prolific writings of Native Americans and he has done well once again.

This work/fun book is educational and hands on. It would be an ideal supplemental book for elementary teachers to use while teaching U.S. Native American history. There are worksheets and activities. It could also be used for children who want more information after completing the brief study used in elementary school. The information is presented in an easy to understand manner. It's exceptionally well done. More hands on/how to make activities would have made it an even better book.

Lovely book, teriffic photos, excellent representation of many Native American groups not usually covered.
