Navman ICN510 GPS Receiver is great!

    Created: 06/10/05
The Navman ICN510 GPS Receiver is an excellent handheld GPS for the money. The manufacturer has installed many user-friendly features that make the first time buyer or the professional happy. They manufacturer has excellent customer service and many additional add-ons to make this unit an extremely versatile GPS to be used in town, on trips, hunting, fishing, cycling, hiking, four wheeling or camping.
    Suggestion:
. Purchase an Amplified External GPS Antenna for the unit. The internal antenna is ok but will become intermittent in high buildings, cloudy skies and stormy weather. Purchase a quality, high gain remote antenna. See specification on 28dB and 55dB GPS antenna at:

Software issues hurt an otherwise nice GPS unit

    Created: 29/12/05
I bought this several months ago after using the Hertz navigation in a rental. I know the Magellan is based on that unit, but I decided to give the Navman a try for the price.

At first I was very happy with the unit. It was small and compact, came with good accessories (like a window mount), and the maps were fairly easy to download to the unit. Navigation was pretty good, and the bright, clear screen was and still is the best feature of this GPS.

However, I experienced multiple problems with the Navman icN 510, and some were not forgiveable. To start, you can't locate Points of Interest (POI) in regard to the location you are currently in. Even when you do locate a POI by typing the name of it in (you have to know the name, it doesn't show you what's available), the HUGE capital letters almost always run off the right side of the screen so that you can't tell which one you're looking at, and there is no way to see the entire word without selecting it.

If it's the wrong one, you have to go through the entire process again. For example, if you looked up "Wal-Mart" in Jackson, MS you would see about 10 listings, but all you would see is "WAL-MART JACKSO..." and never the rest of the address. So you had to guess which one to select, and if it's wrong, back up and start over from the beginning.

This alone drove me nuts, but I had the most trouble with the software for the navigation. Periodically the unit would freeze, requiring a cold-start reboot. This generally wasn't too big an issue until once after a reboot the GPS came back up and it had lost the map info I placed on the SD card. So I was 3 hours from home, heading to a destination I was relying on the GPS to get me to when suddenly I had no map info. Because the maps are stored on an SD card I could not use the unit until I returned home and reloaded the maps.

After this incident I returned the unit. Navman makes some very nice GPS units, and maybe the newer, nicer units are the way to go. Unfortunately, this GPS unit is not worth the money at any price.

    Navman iCN 510 GPS

I bought the Navman 510 long ago when it first came out. And picked it up from QVC for $500.00 years ago. And it has worked fine for me. If you go off course at any time it will tell you. And help you get back on course again if you make a wrong turn. It will do everything you want it to do and even more. It will do everything but poor ya a drink. The only thing it doesnt have is bluetooth. And for the price you can pick this unit up for now is a real buy. I bought another unit for the reason is for my new Bike I will be getting very soon. Just incase it falls off the bike and breaks. I wont feel so bad knowing it only cost me $96.00 for the second unit. Ya got to love Ebay. Its the best...

My NAVMAN Has Never Let Me Down

    Created: 17/06/06
In my previous job, I traveled extensive through the US and abroad. Finding specific locations when new to a destination was usually and "adventure" for me - until I purchased my ICN510.

Installation was a snap. Loading maps onto the unit was also very intuitive (I'd purchased a 512MB SD card to install in the unit for map storage. The unit is also very easy to use.

I only had a problem once when traveling to Halifax, NS, when the unit prompted me to turn onto a one-way street (the wrong way).

Since in my present position I don't travel too frequently, my ICN510 is limited to local use - and for the use of the wife and kids when they're driving to an unfamiliar location.

The price point also sets this apart from most quality GPS units. There's plenting of BANG FOR THE BUCK!

    High recommended.

    Navman ICN510 Gps Receiver

    Created: 26/02/06
Bought the Navman unit about 6 months ago. Have used on 3 or 4 trips to various parts of the country and it has performed perfectly. On one trip to Michigan, ran into some road construction and they had removed road signs where I needed to turn the GPS keep me on track, where as another party, missed the turn and caused them a timely delay. One problem with unit is the display, bright light can make the screen hard to see, although the voice feature will still let you know where to turn. Overall for the money this unit is great.
